dvzuid -> Q500 landing gear question (5/2/2008 4:16:36 PM)

Does anyone know the difference between a swept back landing gear opposed to a straight one. I heard one handles grass better. Is this true or just rumours, and if true which one is better foe grass ?

I've had better luck in grass with the gear swept forward.

It depends on the particular airplane. Some need them swept back, others don't. The important factor is the location of the wheels relative to the CG.

An interesting subject- in my days of control line teamrace for landing on tarmac the undercarriage was positioned back towards/ almost at the CG, and for grass quite the opposite, however as Gary says it can be determined by the model design. If the model does bounce on landing then I would take the wheels further back. Even placing the undercarriage on backwards can have an advantageous affect..............it can also be determined by the desired landing speed. Trevor h, NZ[:D]
