Status: offline 		Did a sharp(it actually was a moderate) turn at the end of the runway and cracked the gear cover and blocks on the right.
Any clue how to fix it?
Seems it's hard to access the block without tearing all apart....

Status: offline 		I had to repair my main landing gear mounts on my Aeroworks 100cc Extra 260. I just used the standard method. Start disassembling it and cut away all broken wood. Re-create the wood that was broken, CA and epoxy it into place, and fix the covering. After that, it will look and land like nothing ever happened.

Interestingly enough, I think that I once read that Aeroworks has two versions of this landing gear mount for this particular aircraft. The more recent version has aluminum angle for bracing. Mine must have been the initial version, because there was no aluminum in the landing gear mounts. If yours is also the earlier version, then this would be a good time to include some aluminum bracing.

Status: offline 		I repaired mine and added the aluminum angle. Also the gear blocks were lite ply, made new ones out of aircraft ply. I peeled back the silver trim stripe and when I recovered the bottom just re-attached it. Cannot even tell it was repaired and it has been flown for over a year with no problems.

Status: offline 		Finally disassembled the gear block by tearing all the balsa wood and some former on the bottom apart.
It was not that hard to disassemble gear blocks as there was almost no glue applied on it.

1/8" aircraft ply is on the way.. and I am planning on doubling it with epoxy for a better strength.
Will post a picture soon..

For those who have a old version, better check yours as well.

BTW, how did you add aluminum angles on the block?
With epoxy? or bolt&nut?
Looks like it's almost impossible to get the job done with bolt&nut due to the space issue..
So I'm planning on adding triangular wood with epoxy....
better than nothing..

Status: offline 		I used self locking nuts and bolts to attach the landing gear plates to the motor box. I used my dremel tool flexible shaft to get in there and drill the holes. And a ratchet wrench to tighten the hardware. Your right about it being tight. The front of the gear plate just fits into a small notch in the backside of F2. I made it where it goes all the way through both pieces of F2. If you need pics of what I'm talking about just let me know. Also, while your at it, the firewall looks like it is pinned, but on 2 planes that I have had apart that is just glue with no dowel or whatever. I've drilled out the glue and epoxied dowels in.

Status: offline 		These pictures are posted for information purposes only. The AW QB 260 is the best plane that I have owned to date and I will purchase another when this one dies. The damaged plane has already been replaced with a new AW 260.


The repaired area. Everything below the angle was ripped out. I had landed (military airstrip), stopped, turned the plane 90 degrees, gave it some gas to get it moving onto the taxiway. I could not see it at the time but my wheel was in a rut in the asphalt runway, when I gave it some gas the gear ripped out, splintering the prop. The engine was checked out and given a clean bill of health. Only damage was to the gear block area and prop. Cowl was not even chipped!

Status: offline 		F2 on my plane now. 2nd &3rd shot is of a damaged plane that needs repaired. He tried hovering DOD w/ empty tank. Notice how the rectangular cutout now goes all the way forward on mine. The wood on his just popped out, as did mine when it came apart.

Status: offline 		This is what appears to be a doweled firewall. It's really just aereated epoxy in the hole. The owner of the plane put the screws in. I drilled it out and thats just curls of glue.

Glues found everywhere but not found where it supposed to be...

Make sure you have enough clamps on hand and that everything fits flush so that you get the best glue joint possible. I hear you about the glue everywhere. Please post more pics of your repair to help guide others.
