guys - i got a really nice gift this week - a Trex 450 SE ... i got a hint before i received it and was told it was going to be an almost ready to fly - so i was kinda hyped about the partial build ...but....when i got the box from the UPS dude i thought ....hmmmm someone must have shrunken my rex or the rest will come later ... nope! .... it was a box of a bunch of little pieces .... well truth is i am kinda excited ...and nervous about the build .... but form what i heard this could be the best thing for me in this hobby as i only own RTF helis and need to get comfortable with working on them.

well my helis comprades please stay tuned - dont leave me now - a holf a step away is what i humbly ask, cuz this newbie may be asking a lot of questions - or i may end up on the Dr Phil show from a nervous breakdown

ciao

Here's a great place for T Rex info. I know it looks intimating but its really not all that bad once you get over the "fear". If there's anything we can do to help just ask. Mike

Hi RC-jj,
Let me guess, 85% pre built? Ha Ha. My mate bought one of these and asked me to help him as he is more into fixed wing. My Trex 450 was pre built and I thought this would be the same, more or less, as mine was 95% built, how much differance could there be?
When we opened the box I was stunned, the only bits pre built were the upper head, tail gearbox and 4 screws in the side frames.
Well, my mate knows his 450 pretty well now as he sat with me as we built it, then another mate got one and I built that too with BOTH of them watching. You can make a lot of friends building these things.
In truth they are more fiddly than difficualt, one tip, don't try and test fly it a 3am, silly things happen, like when I mounted the gyro on its side cos it was a different make from mine and I was too tired to check. Heli survived, small dent in pride only.
Enjoy the build, when you know it inside out you will have no fear when it comes to repairs, maintenance or upgrades.

Cheers,

Yeah, if it's an SE V2, it will come mostly unassembled. Initially, it is VERY intimidating! If you go back and search here for posts that I started, you can see that I made a build log of my progress, complete with a photo gallery on PhotoBucket. I was like "holy sh*t!" myself when I first laid out everything on my bench. Finless' videos and several friends from this forum helped me get past the "holy sh*t" stage and actually get building. Once I started, I was hooked!

its easy follow the directions lol. this is the best thing that could have happened to you! Now you will know what you have and it will be done rite and above all you,ll be on a faster learning curve then any new guys who are starting the same as you.

now with everything locktited properly you will have less problems and dont have to tear down the new heli just to check the last guys build.

and like the other guys have said your going to wreck it and wreck it allot youll be tearing into it anyway on way or another.

taking your time you can finish a 450 in a day or so, your first time it may take you a bit longer but not much.

a must see is bob whites [finless] build videos at helifreak http://www.helifreak.com/forumdisplay.php?f=60

follow this guy as most of us did when we were new and your build will go smooth and youll get all the inside tips youll need

I have to second what srout said about the Finless Bob video's. They will take you from build, to setting up CCPM, to soldering to programming the radio to actually flying.....you can't go wrong with them.

Good luck!

There are times when we all rekit our flying machines. One way or another, you get a chance to learn how it all goes together. Have fun, this is nothing like work. Take pics and let us know whow you are doing. Doc
