I see that some clubs got $5000. I thought there was a cap of $1000? AMA hits again!

Oops! Thought you were talking about TAG Program! My mistake! Bad on me!

Actually, Toolman, AMA caps out at 10% of the club's total cost or $5000.00 whichever is less. In this day and age, where a Club may own its own field, spending $50,000 (10% is 5000) is easily done. For example, my club, Jetero, last year bought an additional 20 acres of land for the flying facility, plus other runway and handicap improvements. Jetero got a $1000.oo or so but just buying the land cost $100,000.oo. No 10% allowed there. Still, I'm happy that something came our way.

I'm one of them do it on your own type guys an don't ask anybody for anything, but a hand now an then at the field.

I really think they (AMA) oughta limit it to $1000.00 so more clubs could be helped out with the same amount of $ they have to hand out. IMHO

I agree with toolman on this one. A budget of 50K a year? Humm ....................... We don't have the bill gates types aroud here. We have a membership of around 65 or so with dues at $25.00. I think our budget last year was around $1000.00 I think that will come out to about $15.38 per member. We have a Cancer Fun Fly every year where 100% of the monet raised will go to a local relay for Life team. Last year we raised $900+. Not bad for a rainy morning. We also get involved with 3 diffrent schools. Camdenton is around a hour away from the field.

We are on a 40 acres with a grass runway 40' X 850+'. It is hard for me to see why the AMA needs to give a single club 5K. Maybe the AMA will not need to raise oue dues seeing they have so much money to throw at clubs.

Just my thoughts

It is equally hard, if not more so, for me to see why RC Modelers are willing to pay hundreds, even thousands, of yankee $$$ for a toy airplane/s, then P & M about paying a few hundred $$ per year for a place to fly.

Look at a fisherman with a Big Bucks boat to catch a few fish or a deer hunter that pays several thousand $$ for a deer lease usable only for a couple months per year, and one or two deer.

It's little wonder why Model Aviation will remain small potatoes in the overall scheme of things. Small is as small does.

Horace, I have to step in here and agree with you on this one.
We have one group that wants to rent just enough space to park a car and take off and land but want to overfly other people's property as necessary with impunity.

The next goup wants everyone to fly some type of small light weight whatever and use public land "like other activities do".

Then there is the group that think that it is ok to pull into or park beside someones land and fly from it until they are asked to leave or law enforcement runs them off to somewhere else.

You are right about small potatoes. We may be able to continue down this path and create a new class called the micro potato.
Like you, I have dumped a bunch of money into developing flying fields. Most of the other members probably think that as long as I am dumb enough to do it they will let me.

As for AMA funding, if a group has enough will power to put together and sell a good development presentation or, as someone said here, "suckup to the powers that be" either way good on them.
