V8 Aggie -> Dragonus Review (5/3/2008 3:35:54 PM)

Please bear with me as this is my first Heli review. Thanks Ok, before I go into any details I’ll give you some information on me. I am 21 years old and I am a student at Texas A&M University. Right before Christmas last year my kick ass girlfriend bought me a Honey Bee King II. So for the last six months that is what I have been flying. Luckily I found this site where I received great support and I was also introduced to Rusty AKA Betapilot. Since then I have upgraded my King with a BL Motor, HH Gyro, CNC Tail Assembly, Billet Landing Gear and a few other goodies. I love this hobby even with the time it takes to set-up properly and then to see that damn bird come crashing down knowing that you will be out of service for the next week! O well, that’s part of it and it takes a special type of person to enjoy something that can be so tedious. A couple of weeks ago I was on the phone with Rusty and all the man would talk about was some helicopter he had just got in called the Dragonus. The amount of praise he was given this thing was crazy! I took a look at it and it was one of the ugliest damn helicopters I have ever seen! But, I listened to him talk for a good hour or so and I decided why the hell not. Even though he warned me about the shock factor I would get once I received it, I still could not comprehend why someone would sell you a helicopter that came in a million pieces. We are talking you have to screw the damn ball joints into the swash plate! I found that the instructions were written quite well and anyone that can put together a model car or read for that matter should be able to handle this no problem. It took me about 5 straight hours to put this thing together and then a little more time to put all the electronics, motor, etc on it. PS- they are serious when they say you need to use locktite! Nearly half my bolts and screw came out during flight! I know, I am a dumb dumb!!!! Anyways, here is what I installed on the Heli: Motor: 3200KV Danlion ESC: Danlion Servo: Standard 8G servo directly from HB King II Gyro: Teleebee HH Now here is the amazing part, I am a lazy college student and I would rather get outside and play with my new toy then sit around for another hour and properly set this bird up. So what do I do? I eyeball the leveling of the swash plate and I don’t even bother to track the blades. Hell I didn’t even power up to see if I needed to. To the street!!!!!!! All I can say is wow!!!! This bird is amazingly stable to fly. I don’t think it could have been any easier. With the half ass setup that I did, I was able to keep my left thump off the throttle and make a slight swash plate adjustment and I kid you not, that sucker just sat 5 feet off the ground in the neighbor’s driveway. My king would never do this. This is also the time were I really was pushed to redo the nuts and bolts with locktite. Having the tail rotor assembly rocket past your face at a million RPM while it’s 10 feet off the ground can make anyone realize the importance of that 4 dollar blue stinky stuff! All in all this is a great bird and I would highly recommend it. Great prices on spares, and even though it’s a plastic head, don’t be fooled….. This is some hardened stuff that will hold its own in strength against almost any CNC parts you put against it. This bird is top notch and I can’t imagine what this thing will do with a proper set-up and a better pilot. I hope this lengthy write up helped and good luck flying to all of you! V8 Aggie
