Hi I have an RCS 215 that was bought 2 years ago and is now being run for the first time. It will start right up and idle with no problem but if I run it at a high throttle 2500rpm it will die after 30 sec. If I throtle up to mid it will also die. The needles came set at 1 turn open and I tried from that point all the way up to 2 full turnes a little at a time with the same resultes. Now this is not my first gas engine I have 11 gas engines and have never had a problem adjusting the carbs on any of them,Valves are fine tank and gas line seem fine as well. Any one have one of these that can help me out. thank's
Oh I forgot to mention I am using a 4.8 1700ma battery for ignition should I use a 6.0v maybe the ignition is not getting enough voltage at the higher RPM'S..

Have you read the manual for the engine? I'd recommend you start with that before you do anything else. If you don't have it, call RC Showcase and get one.

I do have the manual they indicate how to start the engine but no needle settings I am asuming that about 1 turn open should be about right and that is how it came. Again the problem is not starting but keeping it running above idle.

If a cylinder isn't firing and has spark (did you check for spark?), and all cylinders share a common intake tract (thus it has fuel and air as evidenced by the other cylinders running), then it is lacking the 3rd ingredient, compression. Check valve clearances as the first suspect.

HI,
I thought BATTERY capacitor comimng down ,like this condition will get unstable revolution without idle.
So plz try to change another new battery for ignitor.
you don't need 6 V just 4.8V.

I have been helping a friend get his right the past month. His problem was very similiar. What helped was re-setting the spark plug gaps. Try .013 on the two bottom plugs and .015 on the 3 top plugs, hopefully this will help.

I have found the problem the wire that comes from the front of the engine case and plugs into the ignition is faulty. Could be the connector or the pins in the ingnition that interupt the signal. I have left a message at RCS and waiting for them to call me back. This engine is still under warranty so I imagine it will be covered.Thank's to all for your help.

Hi Tony My name is Heinz, I also have the same engine, the engine ran great until I had a slight mishap. anyways, now I have the same problem, the left cylinder is not firing after the engine was repaired. Now I must say that prior to the repair there was a problem with that cylinder and by replacing the plug it ran fine.I am in contact with Mike from RCS to find out what to try next or if I have to send it back.

I'm glad I just visited this forum. I've run the RCS 215 in front of my house the end of May, and today, June 7 I was planning on making the maiden flight with my PT 17 Stearman. I'm experiencing the same problem as most of you guys, the engine will run fine for a few minutes and then just quit running, this by the way is happening at any settings. I've just contacted Mike at RCS and hopefully the situation will be resolved.
Frank

Hi Frank, in reply to your RCS-215, Mike advised me to use a 6V-minimum 2000mAh battery. I was using a 4.8-1800mAh batt. Also check that the valves are closing properly by using a compression tester. I don't know what the compression should be at this moment , but Mike will let me know. Also it is a good habit to check the valve gap freqently at first because they do change, this I noticed on mine. So do-delegents is important for proper engine maintenance.

Heinz thanks for the reply. I am waiting to see what Mike has to say. And then I'll take it from there.

Add me to the list of guys whoes 215 is doing the exact same thing. I am running a 4.8 2400 Mah battery, brand new. This is not a problem with the battery as I have tried a second battery with the same result. Anyone have any news on a fix?
