pxr5 -> eHawk 2000 (5/3/2008 6:10:48 PM)

I just bought an eHawk 2000 glider and have been looking for a brushless/esc/prop upgrade that will work with my 11.1v 20c 2100mah and 1800mah lipo's I already have.

the threads on this glider with peoples recommendations are now outdated and their links no longer work.
Idlike to have enough power to climb vertically so i can pull out of trouble, and more than anything to help me get my head around how much power is needed for a given weight of glider.

Thanks everyone. id really apreciate your expert advice here.

RU4JESUS2 FALCONGTS -> RE: eHawk 2000 (5/3/2008 9:10:35 PM)

IM in the same boat (the dreamline , f5j baby fly e)

you may want to go with E flight for mine its $$$$$$$$$$$ motor and esp 150 ( hacker 22-22L /spin 22 esp) have to wait on the spinner

E flight may bolt right in also

good luck

pxr5 -> RE: eHawk 2000 (5/3/2008 9:26:49 PM)

thanks bro, not sure i follow all those terms im a complete numbskull when it comes to all these numbers associated with motors.
i think i might just get the most powerful motor and esc i can buy and just go for it, its not as if im gonna be using the power all the time.
thanks mate

RU4JESUS2 FALCONGTS -> RE: eHawk 2000 (5/3/2008 9:31:41 PM)

NO problem im the same way try E flight ( www.E-flightRC .com) I forget who is local for you
let me know what you do
thanks falcon

pxr5 -> RE: eHawk 2000 (5/3/2008 9:39:30 PM)

will do thanks.
you'd think with so many motors and esc's out there id have 100 options, but theres so many not even the experts can throw just one option at me, i get the feeling they are just as bewildered and there setups are trial and error. heck not even shops can advise me and they stock the damn things lol

RU4JESUS2 FALCONGTS -> RE: eHawk 2000 (5/3/2008 10:01:54 PM)

try www.towerhobbies.com
they should have a chart to tell you what goes with what
well worth the time at this site

sorry i forgot this

RU4JESUS2 FALCONGTS -> RE: eHawk 2000 (5/3/2008 10:08:07 PM)

what size motor was it set up for??? if came with any

example (600 size motor) for 2m plane

I think the most you can get is a ( 400 or a 480 class motor /25 amp esp ) your plane may be to heavy for this set up im not sure
my 71" glider or 180 cm 1800 mm this will work all up weight is 20 0z to 24 oz

hope this helps

www.soaringusa.com E mail them if nothing else works I know they can help

pxr5 -> RE: eHawk 2000 (5/3/2008 10:24:36 PM)

thanks for that link looks quite helpful.
the motor that came with it is a 540 brushed motor. i dont intend on using it cos they burn out after just 40 flights and wont take my lipo's.

pxr5 -> RE: eHawk 2000 (5/3/2008 10:27:16 PM)

i believe this is its spec

Mtroniks - Purple Heat
540 size Mabuchi motor <font color=purple>Purple Heat</font>
This 27 Single, 540 sized Mabuchi motor comes complete with motor suppresion capacitors.

* Dimensions : L57.0mm, D36.0mm, Shaft diameter 3.17mm
* Voltage, 9.6V
* Off load current, 2.06A
* Max current, 51A
* RPM, 14000RPM

Code: PURPLEHEAT
Price £4.99

so far im thinking of gettin this but i havent got a clue if its a safe setup or if its powerful enough

EnErG Pro C35-14/1300 motor
11x6 or 11x7 prop
Tornado 40amp controller

i know this will handle my lipo's but thats it.

RU4JESUS2 FALCONGTS -> RE: eHawk 2000 (5/3/2008 10:38:33 PM)

ouch I do not think your lipo will work with this plane because of weight
xx-xx-xxxx
the first number is can diameter ( mm)
the 2nd is can lenght (mm)
the 3rd is output rpm/v (kv)

your not alone i have a hanger 9 aspire same problem

pxr5 -> RE: eHawk 2000 (5/3/2008 10:53:46 PM)

why do you say that? whats the problem, is it the 20c rating? need to be higher?

thanks for explaining those numbers!

RU4JESUS2 FALCONGTS -> RE: eHawk 2000 (5/3/2008 11:03:24 PM)

I not very smart may be that im stupid go to the thread here aspire rtf by hanger 9 they have lipo set ups plane is like yours hope this helps sorry if I made a mistake

pxr5 -> RE: eHawk 2000 (5/3/2008 11:14:36 PM)

i read someone here with your plane said this

"I have a Phasor 30/3 with a 11.1 3200 LIPO pack. This is a direct drive with a 9 x6 prop. This set up will take up to the thermals in seconds. And I mean straight up. The down side is this set up cost some real money."

this link shoes a glider like mine, same size and weight (close enough) and down the bottom they show a brushless alternative and the lipo the suggest is 25c not 20c, if i knew my lipo would run that motor and esc id go with that.

RU4JESUS2 FALCONGTS -> RE: eHawk 2000 (5/3/2008 11:38:53 PM)

that is a sweet plane a club member has one he put an rc car brush motor in it and never had a problem i do not remember what he had

tower gpmg4600 35-30-1450 may work
esp ss 45 gpmm 1840 minimum lipo is 3 cell 2100 9x6 prop this may work i may be wrong

i do not know what else to say sorry

falcon

pxr5 -> RE: eHawk 2000 (5/3/2008 11:51:51 PM)

it is nice, i would have got it if they were in the UK. ive been forced to buy this hawk only cos its available here.

that setup sounds about right to me but i might go for a 60amp esc to be extra safe and for future lipo's. theres too many options its mind boggling. im gonna have to just splash the cash and cross my fingers.

pxr5 -> RE: eHawk 2000 (5/4/2008 12:10:24 AM)

well just found this from a dutch site, they have my glider in brushless form

OBL36/11-40A, mit BLC-40 Regler und 11x8 Klappluftschraube

getting closer but they dont mention what lipo's it takes.

in english thats

Thunder Tiger BLC-40 ESC
Scorpion Brushless Motor 3020-12
11x8 prop

Tinkrerpilot -> RE: eHawk 2000 (5/4/2008 2:38:55 AM)

Hey guys. You could look a the AXI 2820/10, 40amp ESC, 10X6- 11X6 folder and 2100 - 2200 2s to 3s Li-po. Or you could use some of the generic motors from United Hobbies or Hobby City.

http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=699703&highlight=eHawk+2000+glider

Another place is www.motrolflyusa.com and go to the bottom using the motor calc they have listed. Hobby Lobby has one set up on their web site also. They show there products but that does not mean that you have to use them. Shop around and find the best deal.
Do a web serch in the forum and see what you come up with. Have fun and good luck.

tink

pxr5 -> RE: eHawk 2000 (5/4/2008 2:54:50 AM)

Hi Tink thanks for popping in with that.
That setup you just posted, does it matter if the lipo's are 20C etc, mine are 20C and ive read in places that you have to be careful as the motor can suck too much power so you need to go for higher C's. it gets scary this the more i read lol

I will check out that calculator cheers for that.

btw, that thread you posted is one ive seen already and nobody gave a solid answer, in fact thats where i read about the C rating thing. i hope i dont need t fork out on more lipo's but will if I have to.

pxr5 -> RE: eHawk 2000 (5/4/2008 3:24:29 AM)

ive tried that calculator and im convinced God gave me a cauliflower instead of a brain lol
ive typed in all the right things but i dont understand it. i thought i would need to type in the plane weight etc and it would tell me a suitable battery, motor and esc. i'll read the help section tomorrow and try again, this is heavy stuff man.

Tinkrerpilot -> RE: eHawk 2000 (5/4/2008 10:50:03 PM)

The AXI motor setup I mentioned is used in a Oly II on 20c 3s li-po's. With a little throttle management and a 60 degree climb, we are getting flights up to an hour worth of time. I am running a similar setup using the Atlas spinoff in a Cox Dust Devil. Shorter wingspan with about as much airtime.

pxr5 -> RE: eHawk 2000 (5/4/2008 11:42:50 PM)

its looking like an AXI motor then. im getting more confident with this now.
thanks for this information.

Tinkrerpilot -> RE: eHawk 2000 (5/6/2008 9:19:41 AM)

If cost is a factor, then you can relate the information from to another and still come reasonably close to what you are looking for. There are a few of the motor calc out there to use and some are easier to use then others if you know what parameters you are running. Sort of fun to play with once you uinderstand them. You could take the AXI info and loko for a clone motor if cost is a factor.

well ive changed my mind so many times ive decided to take the plunge today and ordered everything based on your help and everyone else along the way, but some peoples opinions conflict with others so its been a rough ride.

I settled on the following...

motor: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=140228195004&ssPageName=ADME:B:EOIBSA:UK:11

esc: http://www.brchobbies.co.uk/?page=shop&item=18

spinner: AERO7252.44 45mm spinner for 4mm shaft £15.58

yoke: AERO7242.23 Alluminium yoke 47mm £5.95

prop: AERO7234.46 12 x 6.5 blades £6.75

battery: 11.1v 20C 3s 1800 and 2100mah lipo's

the most confusing thing is as you know i changed my mind and gt an omei 2000 glider and dependin where i look the flying weight is anything from 1kg to 3kg, so it makes it hard to know what to look for and what the performance will be like.

RU4JESUS2 FALCONGTS -> RE: eHawk 2000 (5/6/2008 10:08:22 PM)

let us know how things work out for you

tinkerpilot has helped me alot

good luck

falcon

pxr5 -> RE: eHawk 2000 (5/7/2008 5:50:05 PM)

will do. got motor today, looks very nice for the price. still waiting on everything else.

i think its a bit off that the shop say next day delivery then tell you after youve paid that it takes a week to be delivered.
