I was wondering if anybody could suggest a good lipo balancer for not too much, maybe around $40 or so, if such a thing exists.
I will be running lipo's in a 1/10 buggy only.

Maxamps Method Balancer, A++

Blinky balancer is quite good. $23 from tower hobbies.

2S to 6S cell balancer, automatically cut off the charge circuit when detecting any cell voltage over 4.25V.

Are you looking for just a balancer, or a balance charger?

None of the balancers listed will charge a LiPo, only balance them. With every balancer listed you will still need a charger. It will probably be difficult to find a good balance charger for $40.

However if you already have a charger any of those balancers should work fine. The blinky is probably the cheapest balancer you will find that is decent. It will balance the batteries, but cannot be hooked in-line with a charger. The others can be used to alone to balance, or can be connected to a charger to balance while charging. The Equinox balancer is what I use and it works well. It is probably very similar to the two posted above at maxamps and bphobbies.

Thanks for the info!
I have a Multiplex charger already so, I just need the balancer. HAveing one that hooks in-line, is pretty much what I was thinking about.
Those suggestions all give me los to think about, and look at.
Once again, thans!

I have used Blinky balancers for my lipos and A123s (they are different). They actually can be used during charging.

My TunderPower lipos come with a balancing connector. So with an adaptor, it is possible to connect the balancer to the lipo through the balancing connector. THe battery is balanced live during the chargind.

For my 2cell A123 receiver/ignition packs, I used th MPI charging switch. Because it has a third wire in addition to the red and black wire, it is possible to hook the middle wire on the pack to the third wire to allow in-line charging. The third wire on the switch that lead to the receiver should be cut though.

Some "Blinkey" balancers don't have reverse polarity protection connect it backwards and your Blinkey will blink no more. Buy an Equinox.

The new maxamps balancer looks pretty nice, and you can push a lot of amps through it for in-line charging/discharging. Also if you have an assortment of batteries with different balance connectors looks like they have a good adapter selection available for purchase.

My only LiPo has an Align style balance connector so it works with the Equinox right out of the box. For $29 I think it is a great price, but you can only run 3A through it max. An extra $20 gets you a high power adapter set good up to 6 Amps. The nice thing about these adapters is that you use it in place of the harness that came with the Equinox, so you're not daisy-chaining a bunch of stuff. For a Multiplex charger the Equinox sounds like it would be a pretty good match.

If you need to purchase adapters to work with your batteries balance connectors you'll need to factor the price of those into the equation.

Sorry for the newb questions, but I have a few. I have two types of batteries that I will be charging with an Orbit Microlader. One is from Hobby-Lobby. It is a 11.1 V 800 mAh "Enerland Twenty (20C). IT says it is a 3S so I am assuming that it is a 3 cell battery. The other batteries are e-flight EFLB0995 3 cell 11.1 v 800 mAh. These both have different balancing connectors. One (the hobby lobby) has a five pin connector, the other (e-flight) has a four pin connector. (Note: The five pin connector only has four wires going to it.).

My questions are as follows:
1. Do all balancers have ports for the four and five pin jacks?
2. Do I need a specific balancer for the Obrit or are all balancers charger netrual
3. I'd like to get a balancer that will balance "in-line" while the batteries are charging, is there a specific balancer that will do this better than others?

Thanks for the help.

Mark

Thanks for the guys.
I think I am going to go with this:
http://www.bphobbies.com/view.asp?id=B3615204&pid=B3615200

and this:
http://www.bphobbies.com/view.asp?id=B3795269&pid=B3605195

I think that should work pretty good.
Thanks again everyone.
