Does anyone know how the magnets in these motors are attached? Maybe they need a better way. Mike

Hey Mike,

The ones in my DualSky 6360-11T that came loose and ruptured the case were glued in (or maybe the case split apart causing the magnets to come loose?). Anyway, there were magnets everywhere inside the fuselage when I landed. On the 6360 the magnets are keyed in place by the shape of the inside of the rotor case, and held in place by some type of adhesive. There's no way they can slip laterally, but if the adhesive lets go, they can certainly lift up and bind in between the rotating parts causing a mess.

The AXIs are glued in similar to the Dualsky, except there is no retaining slot for one end of the magnet to slip into. I think it is some sort of high temp epoxy used for gluing in the magnets.

Did some checking on my records....

My original A60-20S (version 1) went 280 flights and never left the plane. It was replaced with the V2, which now has 350 flights on it. With 18.1x11 and Prolite 5300s (and CC85HV on low timing), I typically see ~73 amps on the ground, and ~70 in the air, and ~7500 RPM. Using about 3000-3500 mah per flight, depending on schedule and weather. This setup in my Prestige was 10 lbs even at the 2007 NATs. The hottest I've ever seen the motor (after a big 4500 mah PO7 in crazy wind) was 145F.

I've done a little bit of playing with an A60-16M (same plane and setup, save using a 20x15E). Ground amps ~85, in air ~72 (big time unloading), ~6200 RPM. Using slightly more mah per flight - 3300-3800. I think this setup is about 10 lbs 6 oz (including almost 2 oz of tailweight to balance the bigger motor).

Regards,

Dave

I ran the A60 20S. This is the same motor as Dave L. runs. You need a pretty light airframe to fly the higher classes with it. Axi F3A motor has more power for sure. I think Jim O. (OHD) ran the A60 20m for a little and may chime in with some performance info. The only issue with the A60's is that you have to mount it to the nose then make some bearing and support for the rear of the motor.

As far as the Axi, call Hobby Lobby anyways since they are the importer. I doubt they will say too bad since Esprit probably bought it from them in the first place.

I have a Pletty coming this week and should have some time to fly it shortly.

Dave is the Hacker nose mounted? If so do you support the back of it? Also do you have a link to a vendor on it? Thanks, Mike

Mike,

Yes, I mount the A60 on the nosering and use an aft support (not much different than a gearbox motor). My A60s have come direct from Hacker USA. I believe Tanic and NESail also carry the motors.

The AXI also has slots on one end that the magnets fit to.
