Status: online 		Hi all, Took the Kobra out yesterday for two flights. This a fun ship. Kind of speedy, has a nice sink rate while landing. Played with knife edge, a lot of stick movement to keep on edge and straight. Running OS32, I think the bearings are about expired. Have it's big brother, King Kobra, waiting for a clear spot on the building board.

This was my second powered flight of the year. Had the 4*40/Saito 45 out earlier, slow and docile.

Status: offline 		I miss my Kougar, I really, really, miss my Kougar. I think I might have to pick up a new kit now. My wife will thank you for this! Quite possibly one of the best flying sport planes of all time...Kobra, Kougar, King Kobra.

Status: offline 		It's a terrific design in all three sizes, I maidened my King Kobra last fall and I haven't yet flown it this season. I'm looking forward to getting a lot more stick time with this big beautiful bird!

Status: online 		Bigedmustafa- Nice covering job. Looks like that would be an easy one to see in the air. It looks like it has a Super Tiger for motivation. What size did you go with? Ever wish for more power? I don't think too much is possible, but the weight that comes with more can be a hard trade off.
How does it knife edge? My Kobra wants to roll upright, so a bit of aileron needs to be fed in. It also tucks a hair one way or the other, don't remember.

catracer343- I don't need to think about the Kougar. My wife would be thanking you for that! I may end up with it anyhow. I bet the AX55 would be an excellent match.

The landings on this are so easy, nose slightly up and just sinking down to the tarmac. Flys well slow also, just not as much fun.

Status: offline 		I had one of the original Magnum Pro .46 with a Mac's tuned pipe, and ran a 10X7 prop. Very fun indeed. The 55AX would be a screamer, but you might have problems with prop clearance. I have the 55AX in my SportAir 45, and I'm using an 11X7 three blade to keep it from over revving. Best performance will usualy be had with a two blade. I would love to try one with a piped Rossi or Jett 45! Uggh! -I need to go to bed before I go broke.... -Craig

Status: offline 		Ah the Kobra, my all time favorite.

Tonight I went into my shed and dusted off my kobra, it's 8/10ths complete, needs a bit more sheeting and some sanding then will be ready to paint and cover.

Back when I first got into r/c at the tender age of 12, the kobra was the first plane I built myself, and it was my favorite model for a couple of years until i touched the tail on a full speed inverted low pass and totalled it. That little plane gave me countless hours of fun and tought me so much.

15 years later, after a break of 12 years or more from R/C, I wandered into a hobby shop and saw a Sig Kobra kit on the shelf. I had to buy it. It has taken me another 3 years to get it built (well let's not speak too soon) but I hope to fly it in the coming weeks.

I plan to power it with a TT Pro .36 - should make it get up and boogy.

I remember my favorite manouver with the kobra back in the day was a full throttle touch and go.. I broke a few props practicing that one.

Status: offline 		I agree that the Kobra is an awesome little plane. It will scream with a good .35 on it. Mine had an Evolution .36 and flew like a bat outa hell. It's beauty isn't just its speed, though; it flies very smooth and for such a small plane is nearly immune to wind gusts. I'm sure that is thanks to the relatively high wing loading. I know this is a blasphemous statement to some folks but I think there is something to be said for a heavy airplane. The Kobra is definitely one of the proverbial "go where you point it" kind of planes. I miss mine desperately but I no longer have the engine and I don't really want to buy another. I am considering a Kougar.

Status: offline 		WMB - Thanks for the props! My buddy Fred actually built and covered it, I'm an apartment dweller short on proper workspace.

I chose a Super Tigre G-61 ringed for my King Kobra because I wanted a kind of "old school" engine to go with my "old school" airframe. The G-61 turns a MA Scimitar 11x7 at 13,300 rpms with the original Super Tigre glow plug and 10% Wildcat fuel. I'm flying mine more for Sportsman pattern training than for speed. The G-61 still hauls the thing around like a scalded cat!

The kit was built with fixed gear and was glued with almost all carpenter's glue with very little epoxy or CA. As a result, it came in around 6.5lbs or so and is almost a full pound lighter than your typical King Kobra.

If you build with epoxy and add retracts, I could see moving to a .75 2-stroke, but you're going to be limited by prop clearance anyway. My King Kobra is simple and light and flies plenty fast. I bought the G-61 ringed for $79.99 on sale at Tower last year ($5 off), and I almost feel guilty paying so little for such a great engine.

Edit: Oh, I took the King Kobra out and flew it on Monday. What a plane! I need to rework the fuel tank setup so I can add a clunk to the fill line, but I decided since it was flyable I'd best get it airborne. I just have to be sure to fly it until it's almost out of fuel, because I can't reach the carb line to pull fuel out of the tank!
