Too early but finally here. I bailed out from 6 feet getting too close to a wall. I landed on grass but the damages were bad....bent boom, main shaft, feathering shaft, fly bar shaft, broken main blades, tail boom brace, boom fin stabilizer. I was lucky my electronics are intact. My tail servo is sitting up high. I thought from looking at the bent boom, my servo was also damaged. I checked my crash kit...everything I need to rebuild is already on hand. I should be up and trying to fly again in a few days.

Well, you don't have to worry about getting a scratch on it any more.

Carefully check the blade grip bearings to make sure the inner ones didn't get crushed. Check the main shaft bearings to be sure they don't have a rough-turning feel. Take a look at the head block. If it wobbles on a new main shaft when fitted properly, then it is bent.

Actually, cost-wise that doesn't sound so bad. The boom, flybar, main shaft, and feathering shaft should all be under $20. Did you have woodies on? Those should be $10 or less (www.techmodelproducts.com). The fins are about the most expensive part.

Did you hit throttle hold just before or immediately upon crashing?

I cut off throttle power when I bailed out. This is the reason why I crashed...stupid mistake. I have to check the bearings like 321 said. I had problem removing the main shaft from the head block. The block bearings may be damaged. I don't have that in my crash kit or the blade holder bearings also. The rod holding the tail gear in the tail assembly is also bent. I have to figure out how to remove the gear from the bent rod. I'm waiting for my Align motor to put on the Copter X. It's ready to go minus the motor. It might take me longer to put the Trex back together.

How do I use throttle hold and what is it use for? Does that mean what it says?

I won't chastise you like some would for not already having throttle hold set up [:)]

But I will say you should not fly again until you understand throttle hold and how it is used. Throttle hold is used on your electric heli as a throttle cut. The defaul value in my transmitter of -5 works great. You should also set up a linear pitch curve for throttle hold (again, this was the default in mine).

Anyway, you should always have TH on prior to plugging in your battery, after landing, and anytime you have the heli plugged in and not ready to fly. Also, it's the first think you should do when you crash. In a perfect world, you would hit TH the split second prior to a crash. This will stop the motor from applying torque once the crash happens...it will save you crash damage. In particular, you will strip your main gear a lot until you get used to hitting TH. It's also how you will practive autorotations...hit TH and auto it in. Lastly, TH along with my ESCs soft start enables me to start the heli in idle up.

This is how I startup my heli every time now:
- ensure the TH switch is engaged (and soft start is enabled)
- ensure Flight Mode switch is flipped to idle 1
- have throttle stick at low position and plug in battery and let ESC/gyro arm
- put throttle stick to mid position, and flip off TH
- once fully spooled up to speed, take off and fly!

I also land in idle one and hit TH to cut power.

throttle hold is setup by default to -5 but don't know how to use it yet. I'll check my manual. Flying in idle up 1 is too much for me right now. I'll try using throttle hold with normal flight mode and when I decide to bail out again or maybe not bail out again but try to manuever the heli. Throttle hold will be my last resort instead of throttle stick low.

Shoot, that's no big deal! [)] It is the electronics that are really expensive. Those other parts are fairly cheap. It's never nice to crash your Heli (I crashed mine for the first time this year yesterday), but it is going to happen. Just rebuild and take the opportunity while you have things apart to check EVERYTHING to make sure it is working properly. For example, my crash took out my blades, main shaft, feathering shaft and most of the ball links on my head. While I was repairing her, I found that the screws that hold the one-way bearing on the main gear were loose. This made the main gear wobble around terribly. I saw it right away and fixed it.

one thing i can say about this crashes....i'm learnin my heli parts. I don't even need my manual anymore to do my rebuilds. I refer to the diagram for proper part name so I can order them. At least I'm getting good at something on this hobby.

Skarn, is idle up 1 same as stunt 1? My stunt 1 throttle curve is 100, 95, 90, 95, 100. You said you are landing with idle up 1. Are you landing you heli at 100% throttle? Thanks.

I'm testing my build expertise and rebuilding my RTF exceed raptor g2 with metal walkera parts. The blowup diagram from Walkera is for the whole heli and the metal parts I got are in pieces. I'm getting my kicks in building these babies. Joy in flying i guess will come later. Spektrum just shipped me a free AR9000 from the buy one get one free promo they had. AR9000 is too big for a 450. Looks like I have 1 piece for a future project...a 600. :)

Yes, stunt 1. No I don't land with 100 percent, in idle 1 you land at mid stick...so it's at 90 percent throttle. I then hit TH and cut engine.

Sometimes I hit TH about 5 feet up and auto it in.

I get headaches playing video games so I'm learning the hardway. I tried with the FMS SIM and the free SIM in the TREX 450 forum on helifreak.

rft, the dx7 has a toggle swich on the top right. back is offf, forward is on. and as skarn said -5 seems to be the most efficient in shutting off the throttle.

used it today after correcting a mistake, then bailing from my correction. had to ditch it in the dirt and i hit TH and nothing but a blade broke (and a bent feathering shaft) but ive gotten to the point where those are in and out in about 2 min!

Thanks...I went and look the minute SKARN mentioned TH. I'll start using it immediately since it should be part of my start up routine. Using the throttle 0 position for bailout is no..no since it slams the heli down. It took me a while to get this concept. I have 0, 50, 70, 90, 100 throttle curve and 40, 45, 50, 75, 100 for pitch. Gravity plus this settings at 6 feet equals to a lot of small damaged parts.

There are no buttons on the DX7 except the select button if I remember it correctly. Mostly toggle switches.
