Gungadin -> Elite HR-1500 Real Capacity (5/4/2008 7:25:31 PM)

Anyone else find it difficult to get the 1500mah rating out of this pack ? I recently purchased one of these and have carefully charged and discharged it 4 times and can't get more than about 1400ma out of it. I've been told the manufacturer rates it by discharging it with a 300ma load and taking it down to .8 volts per cell. I discharged at 250 ma and took it down to .95volts per cell. To me this pack acts an awfull lot like a 1400 mah pack, and I'm wondering if the 1500ma rating is not just hype from the manufacturer. So anyone else out there have a similar experience with this particular Elite HR-1500 battery pack ? If I were a betting man I'd bet the answer is yes. But lets hear from anyone else who has had experience with this particular battery pack.[)]

I don't have the specific battery, but have found it online. It looks like it's used in 1/18 scale power cars/trucks and then rx packs for large models. My experience with packs is that they will indeed discharge capacity at such a small load. Here's a 20 amps graph that shows nearly 1500 from a single cell. Surely this cell would deliver over 1500 at 300 ma and .8 or .9 cut-off.

One thing that comes to mind is to ensure the cells are balanced and full , I'm sure you know to do a full 15 hrs at c/10.

You are at 93% of rated capacity, I would live with it and be happy. The 1500 rating is a average and some packs might get that high and some may not. In other words the rating is just a little bogus in my opinion also, but there isn't much you can do about it. I bought 2 each 2000mA GP-2000 packs last year and got about 1800mA out of them after careful Form charging.

Bottom line is your packs should be just fine.

1400 sounds about right, I have three of these packs in my EF 74" yak and thats about what I get when I cycle them on my LN 5014 charger/cycler. I believe it takes the pack down to about 0.8 volts per cell when in the cycle mode. They do have a pretty high self discharge, if I charge them and do not get a chance to fly and charge them a week later it always takes about 200 to 300 mAh to fill them up again. Other than that they do pack a pretty good punch.............RJ
