I have a MS Hornet X-CP that I just finished. I have one vibration problem that I cannot resolve. When spinning up the rotor it enters a region with bad vibrations. This disapears when it reaches normal rpm for flying. I have disassembeled it to check that everything is in balance and I seems to be. The vibrations will happen even without main blades and paddles. Is this just a mode that I have to live with or can I do anything about it?

Sounds like it's your tail that is vibrating. The way I balance the tail is to (1) make sure the tail blades have the same tightness as each other in the grips and (2) apply a small piece of scotch tape to one tail blade and check again if it's better, then fine tune the amount needed to get rid of the vibration. If worse, try step 2 with the other blade instead.

If the vibration isn't too violent and it doesn't show up during flight, you can just ignore it as well.

I now tried to run up the hornet with no tail. The vibrations are the same, so it is in the rotor somewhere. It is only in the run up but I really don't like it.

I was hoping someone would come along with some good suggestions for you. But, I'll give it another go here. It could be a bent main shaft or a warped head block. If you spin the head slowly, do you see any wobble to it? I know my Hornet II's head block is a bit off, but it doesn't vibrate when up to speed - just a little on spool-up, but nothing major. To check if the main shaft is bent, a good method is to take it out and roll it on a piece of glass - any bend will be obvious.

Hope you figure it out.

Hello,

I checked the main shaft already, even replaced it to be sure. This did not help. A warped head block can be the case. I guess I will have to live with it. I have a X3D in the box ready to be built. I guess I will just fly the CP with the run up vibrations. Thanks for all your advise.
