How about this?

Laser 200v

I had the Hannibal, which is Flairs other large aircraft, it was marketed as for a 2st 60, but no way would a 60 even pull it along the ground, let alone fly it. I put a 120 fs in mine and it was just right, though the newer 1.80 fs would be ideal.

vertical grimmace -> RE: flair fokker right size engine give me advice (5/14/2008 12:14:54 PM)

Which size is it?

deljon -> RE: flair fokker right size engine give me advice (5/14/2008 4:51:13 PM)

I had a 180 Saito on mine, (1/4 scale) flew it great with power to spare. A 150 would probably do fine also.

the hannibal was 100 inch span aprox, the same scale as the DR1.
I would not put anything less then a powerfull 1.20 in it, and build it light.
The hannibal and DR1 both fly like trainers, really nice and enjoyable.

PLANE JIM -> RE: flair fokker right size engine give me advice (5/18/2008 4:30:04 AM)

I actually own the flair hannibal-and I flew it today-flies well on a G-23 Zenoah-I sure wouldn't mine to buy another kit like this one, any ideas? Sorry if this is off topic

Flew one for a friend once. It had a Quadra 35 on it. Flew great.

Hi
whit your supertigre 3000 is it overpower ?

eagledancer -> RE: flair fokker right size engine give me advice (5/24/2008 5:52:25 PM)

no its not overpowered, mine weighs in at 17 lbs, (koverall and paint) flies about right with this power

Alistair -> RE: flair fokker right size engine give me advice (7/8/2008 12:26:21 PM)

Hi
i've had two flair 1/4 scale triplanes 73" wingspan

1.20 four stroke is ideal, i've used a super tigre 2000 as well which was fine. Thing is bigger engines dont make a lot of difference as it has so much drag it doesnt go faster just adds weight (which I gather was a draw back of the full size). I did try a super tigre 3000 in one but even on tickover it was moving forward so took it out again.

Incidentally I have a Hannibal as well, which is 91" wingspan and is lovely to fly, 120 four stroke is ideal. I tried a 90fs initially and it seemed a smidge underpowered (which is why I put in the 120)

Similar to the triplane in that bigger engines than 1.20fs dont add to performance and more weight takes the edge off its lovely flying qualities. My hannibal has had an irvine 1.50 2stroke, supertigre 2000 and a friend put a magnum asp 1.60 twin in his (he built mine as well) Always went back to the 1.20fs for the hannibal engine as THE ideal combination weight/power making the hannibal an absolute joy to fly.

I'd agree with the comment that a 60 2stroke for the hannibal would be on the margin of power needed. Having said that 60 size engines are more powerful these days

Hi Alistar!
when you used super tigre 2000 for fokker dr1 triplane which propeller size you used? how was its fly?

Alistair -> RE: flair fokker right size engine give me advice (7/8/2008 2:26:39 PM)

As I recall it was an 18x6. It flew well, plenty of power, had a good sound that the big 2 strokes have.

But on personal preference a 1.20 fourstroke burbling away was better[;)]

I've just got a kit to build of the balsa usa 1/4 triplane and curiously i'm putting a 26cc petrol engine in it. My first real foray into petrol (gas engines as they say in the USA). Basically sick of the gunk over the model (and me) , cost of glow fuel/glow engines and reliability issues. So i am giving petrol engines a try. [X(]

is ok if i use 16x8 prop whit os max 1.20 2 stroke?

TFF -> RE: flair fokker right size engine give me advice (7/8/2008 3:24:08 PM)

It is listed as one of the props for the 120AX. Should be OK.

Alistair -> RE: flair fokker right size engine give me advice (7/8/2008 4:30:24 PM)

Should be ok, as mentioned if it's in the recommended prop range. You may need to experiment a little to find 'the best' not just size but also propellor 'make' to suit the model and the way you want it to fly. E.g I used to have the flair taube which was a little over engined with an OS48. But I found a relatively ineficient wooden prop compensated for this to a degree and matched the model era.
