Getting better, still overly accessorized for my taste.

How do you get aluminum wheels to rust?

i was waiting to see a cool bumper. neat how you still were able to keep the functional bumper, and use it to mount the realistic bumper. in my eye your rig is now totally complete. beautiful job.

Chaman that looks really great Can you really say it's finished? Something like this build always seems to force you to see just how scale it can become, and even if you don't work on it for a while it will call you to keep searching for ways to modify. Awesome build!

Aluminum will rust, but it's not typically referred to in the same fashion. It will oxidize very quickly, but it's not generally called rust. The same process is taking place, though.

Thanks Reiko! Also some aluminized steel wheels can get rust, the brown kind, when neglected.....

Hmmmm, being from California, I guess it's a phenomenon I'm not familiar with.

Living in the Mid West now, after two pretty heavy winters and the salt and road grime that come w/ it, my aluminum wheels show no sign of it.

Aluminum will oxidize within minutes when exposed to air.

My wheels are definitely dull and need to be polished, but no "rust".

An interesting read on the subject: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aluminum#Chemistry

I believe the iron oxide is the reason rust on other metals is brown, and oxidized aluminum is dull to the eye as well as very rough. Honestly, I wish we weren't discussing this, because my F250 is sitting outside with disgustingly oxidized Center Lines.

Chaman, I didn't mean to sidetrack your thread, and this will be the end of my rusty comments

LOL! BTW....I detailed the rims to make them look like cheap steel ones. The fact they are made of aluminum is irrelevant, thats like saying how I got the plastic body rusted too....see what I mean? The effort was to MODEL them to make them look like neglected steel rims.

Reiko....go polish those wheels! LOL!
