I finally got to fly my new ultimate 120 today. It has been ready to run for at least a month, but today was the first decent flying day that we have had. Just a quick note to say that is plane flys like a dream. I have an os 120 4 stroke on it and it pulls it around the sky without much trouble. Its a brand new engine so i need to get it broke in, but when its finally seasoned im sure it will be more than adequate power to have unlimited verticle. Anyone wanting a nice 120 size ultimate should really check into this plane. It not only looks great but will do any trick in the book. Thanks Nitro! you got a real winner here!

Yup, I have the older model which is still flying.

The older one flies great with the O.S. 1.20 yet it is heavier than yours.

The new lighter version which you have, should be perfect with your combo.

Landings are quite nice.

HI Guys,
I have just bought Ultimate 120. I would like to know, what engine is the best for that model ?
I mean OS Engine of course: 0.91 FX ( 2 s) ; 1.20 AX (2 s) or 1.20 FS (4 s.)
I think 1.20 FS will be OK. Am I right ?
Best regards
Peter

I fly the older ( Pink ) version which is heavier with an O.S. 1.20 Surpass III FS Pumped.

While the plane flies very well, it is NOT "unlimited verticals" so I wish it had a bit more power.

The yellow version of the 1.20 is much lighter and should do well with the 1.20 FS but a bit more engine power may be recommended.

The 1.20AX produces more power than the FS ( more akin to a 1.60-1.80 Four Stroker ) so it should be fine.... if you go this route you'll need a Pitts Style inverted mount muffler though.

The .91 FX would be similiar in performance to the 1.20 FS or there-abouts.

to opjose:

so, what do you think about 1.20 AX (2 strock) ? - Is it better choice then 1.20 AX or 1.20 AX will be OK ?
1.20 FS - the price is max - I can pay.

Sorry I don't understand the above question.

You ask if the 1.20 AX ( 2 stroke) is a better choice than the 1.20 AX or will the 1.20 AX be OK?

All are the same engine.

Sorry,
I mean of course, the 1.20 2-strokes

http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXLGJ0&P=7

and 1.20 4-strokes ?

http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXBY64&P=7

Which one is better for Ultimate 120 (yellow) in your opinion ?

Best regards
Peter

Well... the plane will do OK with a 1.20 FS ( 4 stroke ).

But it will have MUCH more power with a 1.20 AX ( 2 stroke ).

However on this Biplane I prefer a four stroke.

So to get the equivalent power as the 1.20 AX, on a 4 stroke engine you would have to move up to around 1.60 CU to 1.80 CU four stroke engine.

A comparison between the 1.20AX and a larger four stroke engine would be more equitable.

As it is the 1.20AX has more power. If I had to choose between just those two, I'd go with the 1.20 AX, but I would be hit with higher fuel consumption.

to opjose,
You are right, 1.20AX "drinks" more fuel ...
It means I will buy .......... 1.20 FS, because 1.60 twin 4-strokes is very expensive.

http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXBY68&P=7

There is no engine between 1.20 and 1.80 4-stroke from OS.

Best regards
Peter

Flew my 120 today for the first time, the plane flew very well, but would be easy to ground loop if you not ready with the rudder if you hit all the power at once, the 26cc didnt have the power i was hoping for, but this is my first gasser, and i am sure i had it to rich, so i am sure it will do better with a little more tunning

If you find that you are having ground looping problems, do this...

- Try to "toe in" the wheels a bit.
- Replace the tail wheel assembly for one that will permit the plane to sit in a more level position.

In effect you want the nose not to point "up" as much when the plane sits on the ground.

This will have a rather dramatic ( improvement ) effect during run-up.

For a suitable replacement tail wheel assembly WITH an included rubber wheel and aluminum hub at an unbelievable price check this out.

Tail Wheel Assembly and Wheel.

Yes you see that correctly... $1.98.
