I don't know which is "best" but I run 6S Flight Power Evo25 2500 packs in my 500. They are pricy at $185 each but they provide plenty of juice and balance my 500 perfectly. I have read of many guys flying 5S (with proper gearing adjustments) and it working out great for them. I think the majority of 500 guys are flying 6S.

Can you wire two 3s 2200-2500mah 25c batteries together to power the T-Rex 500? Like the Gaui Hurricane 550?

Yes you can. I only have two dedicated 6S packs for my 500. However, I have a bunch of 3S 2170 packs for my 450 that I wire together in series using an adapter. I feel that it has more "punch" with the 6S 2500 packs but that may be purely psycological.

the hurricane cant hold a candle to the trex500

youve seen the vids of the 450 with a -6 scorpion motor? thats the kind of power this heli has if not more!.

i dont know what im doing and popped of a tic toc like i,d been flying years

Really? Hmmm ... a T-Rex 500 is that much better than a Hurricane?

Now I am really on the fence, I like the longer boom on the Hurricane.

Just wondering, is there an extended boom setup for the T-Rex 500 to allow it to run 500+ mm blades?

not that i know of, but you dont need it. the 500 is so strong the guy at LHS says its faster then his trex600. but the best thing is the stability. the build is easy and you will love the heli it will become your new favorite bird.

flys like a rocket, smooth as silk and has manuverablity to boot.

the hurricane is fine but needs allot of $ to be a bird like the trex. if you like sport flying get the hurricane.

if you want to have a blast doing sport and 3D get the trex.

I am VERY happy with my 500. I hardly ever fly my 450 any more. I end up doubling up my 450 packs so I can get "one more" flight with the 500 vs. 2 more with the 450.

Well, I also LOVE !!!!!!! my 500.

I was just wondering about the setup. I have 3 6S batteries and when I realized that I would have to change pinions to use the 5S, I answered my own question.

that sells 6S 22.2v 2400 mah batteries that fit just fine on the 500(just a bit tight but goes) for only 60 bucks.

I got 2 for my 500 and perform the same way as my EVO. for the price you can't go wrong.You will need to balance them though. They were quite off when I got them.

I am only a sport flier, no 3d yet, just an occasional flip or roll.

I sold my 450 to get the 500 and love it. I just reached a point I didn't want to fly the 450 anymore after I tried the 500.

if you get a chance push then hard. my only problem is i fly with allot of collective at %100 throttle 13t and im afraid ill puff them.

if they hold up i,d be dumb not to get atleast one lol.

I saw those lipos on ebay and was thinking about buying a couple of them. Let us know how they hold up after you get some cycles on them. I am trying not to buy any hobby stuff this month and attemting to save for a new plane right now so extra packs for the 500 are on the back burner. I want a plane that I can hover like along with my heli![:D]

My 500 is setup with the stock Align motor and Esc, 3 Hitech HS-5245mg digital servos on the swash, Futaba Gy401 gyro, Futaba S9257 tail servo, AR6200 receiver, and a Dimension Engineering SportBec. If I was building again I would most likely use Futaba S9650s on the swash and just replace the gears. My Hitecs don't strip gears but the case is prone to breaking inside during a crash. I hear Hitec recently redesigned them but have not seen a new model to check for any differences. You can also use JR servos, I think they are the Z3650s but am not sure. I am also running some of the new Align metal bling (main bearing blocks, tail case, tail slider, mixing arms) but none of it is necessary. I just like the way it looks.

Download the Finless videos and your 500 will go together without a hitch.

Hey, guys with the 500 TRex ... have you heard about the glitching/static build-up/esd issue?

I read over on HeliFreak that this model has been more succeptible than others to the ESD in the tail, in some posts I have read that just spraying with silicone, static guard, or pam has remedied the issue. While others went through further steps to ground their tails to the frames.

Any feedback is appreciated, I am waiting on some funds and my LHS to get the T500 in stock ... it will be the GF kit with blades for only $460 :D

I will hold off on the metal bling for as long as I can, but man if my LHS had the torque tube I would be all over it. I may see if I can get the metal tail for a good deal though since I will be buying all of my stuff there.

I'll need cyclic and rudder servos, and a gyro ... everything else I have.

My LHS recommended the 9650's or the HS-5245's for cyclic and the 9257 for rudder, along with the GY-401 for the gyro ... would everyone agree?

Back in January, I was a victim of the glitching/static build-up/esd issue.[IMG]http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v218/BBates/Thread%20Animation/mad5.gif[/IMG] I lost all control of my newly built 500 on its 4th flight. My brand new heli fell from about 30' up and proceeded to beat itself to death on the ground. The crash ended up costing me almost $150 to repair and I had to search high and low for the parts. At that time nobody had really pinned down what exactly was happening so I threw everything at my 500. I added a Dimension Engineering SportBEC, grounded the motor mount and the tail boom to the negative on my esc and use a silicone lube on my belt. I have flow my 500 like this for roughly 50 flights without issue.

However, I just saw that a guys 500 caught on fire and it was likely due to having everything grounded to the negative on his ESC. Because of this I am going to remove all the grounding I did before and simply ground my front tail drive bearings to the boom, ground the boom to the frame, and continue to lube my belt. This method seems to be working for everyone and does not pose the risk of a short on the frame resulting in fire. You can build your new heli and see if you have the static issues, which I don't recommend. Or you can just ground everything properly when you build it and fly without worry from the very beginning.

Those components will work nicely in your new 500. If you are planning on getting the torque tube don't buy the metal tail case. The torque tube uses a completly different aluminum tail case and it comes with the kit.

Thanks, so basically you are suggesting to ground the front tail drive bearings to the boom, then ground the boom to the frame, and lube my belt?

How do you ground the tail bearings to the boom and to the frame? Can you explain that more for me?

This is why I am thinking of buying the kit myself instead of the deals I have seen on used ones, even slightly used.

I attached a pic of how to ground the bearings to the boom. Then just drill a small hole in the boom and screw a jumper from the boom to the frame. There are some other methods out ther but this is how I am going to do it when I make the changes.

If you can get a good deal on a used setup why not jump on it. You will need to tear the entire heli down anyway to make sure everything was built and setup properly, at least I would anyway. At that time you can do any of the grounding mods you like.

silicone is all thats needed. no other grounding mods are really needed. i havnt even put silicone on and im 10 flights or more but i do have a GF frame. the god thing about this heli is the support because so many people have the heli. Oh and its finless approved!

Which lube are you currently using? I am currently using Sullivan Dry Ice Lube just because I had it laying around. I also have some silicone shock oil on the shelf and have heard of others using that as well. I want to make sure that I get something that is proven to work before I change my setup. I would leave everything on my heli as is except that I just saw the pics on helifreak of the burned up 500 that had the same mods as mine. It will probably be a couple weeks before I have the time to pull everything apart and make my changes.

Needless to say but I likely will not be grounding anything on mine unless I start to see glitching, what radio type/system are you guys using? I have a Futaba 7c PCM system I will be using in the T500.

most of the guys with issues are using the spectrum, im using a dx6/ar6000 not sure if the older techknowledgy has issues with glitching or not. i wont run a bec either, i have hundered flights or so and i have yet to have a issue with the stock aligh esc with the internal bec.

i will get food grade silicone though. its cheap insurance
