I am building a nitromodels 60 P-51 and there is no factory mount for the retract servo . Does this mount have to be constructed or am i missing pcs in the mount area ?

Yup, you have to build your own out of lite ply.


The plane comes with the inexpensive mechanical retracts.

These work, but the wire is too maleable, and tends to bend easily. At the very least remove the wire and temper it in an oven.

You are better off changing out the provided retracts for air retracts, and for a good looking setup, struts.

In either case harden the mounts by adding epoxy at all of the wood junctions. Once this dries I typically wick thin CA everywhere I can around the surrounding areas and the wood mount itself to harden it.

If possible add in a few strips of light ply to the mounts, so that you are effectively spreading any torsional loads, that would otherwise rip the mounts out on a hard landing.
