ptxman -> RE: F5D wings (Dihedral or no Dihedral) (5/9/2008 12:44:15 AM)

Most commercial F5D models have a minimal amount of dihedral. Im guessing maybe 1 degree. I could measure some of my models (Avionik D2005 etc) if you need something more accurate. Im really not sure why they even bother, the wing sction C/L is so close to thrust datum relative to other kinds of models & the fuselages are so skinny (< 2" at their tallest part). If anything, a 'top wing' model should probably have negative dihedral (anhedral) for minimal roll coupling, but its kind of a pain to mold & build. Q500's (top wing racers) are typically straight = zero dihedral & they work fine. I would say for 300 kph racing, dihedral doesnt even enter the picture, there is negligible side slipping & roll couple. It might help a bit on landings & just be 'neutral' for racing, maybe thats the thought. The model you are showing is quite dated BTW.
