Actually, little over 40mph is said. It has the higher 3rd speed and bigger wheels, yet its slower because it uses a 52/16 spur/cb combo instead of 47/17 as on the Sav X. I dont get it, why did they have to lower the CB count if the engine is so big. Shouldnt it have a ton of torque. And not to mention the Sav X is 45mph top speed. Thats just said.

is it posible to upgrade XL from 52/16 spur/cb to 47/17?

I was able to run two tanks between rain the other day...the first run on video, was pointless because of some slipper issues, and I spent most of the tank tuning it...Unfortunately, I didn't get it tight enough, and it carried onto the second tank...and slipped a couple times in the video...
I was in a rush, and barely got a running tune with a fresh new plug(stock is a R5, I only had a MC8 )....The truck can be really quick though, but I've got some little kinks to iron out....The shift points are kinda laim....it skips 1st half the time, goes into a very short second, then into the tall 3rd gear....I think my slipper slippage is from the combonation of the power of the motor(pretty powerful mill) and the early shift into the tall 3rd gear...
Unfortunately, I'm finding out that the second gear shift point adjustment, calls for a tranny tear-down...I was pretty dissapointed when I realized that the 3 access holes on the side of the tranny are NOT for adjusting the shift points...but only for the 3rd gear shift point...I've been told that it sports the X style tranny case, so it should be easy(my only other Savy was a .25)
My second problem is that the throttle doesn't always open fully...My guess is the stocker servo is too weak or just sucks...I plan to just find a servo to outpower the saver spring, instead of drastically changing the whole linkage setup....

Video:Excuse the poor tune...Slipper...and WOT problem....

It was like this shortly after that run....

http://www.dawgbonez.com/Videos/dawgbonez/MOV00112.MPG

My last problem....well...more of a noob mistake, although I have never broke a HPI rotostart on my high pinch/compression Italian mills that would stick in pinch...But I managed to hydro-lock the engine(???) and it binded once and broke...Granted, I was using my Dewalt 18V with it's clutch settings as normal...Maybe the rotostart v2's are cheaper grade material, or maybe the 5.9 engine has a cruddy OWB that continously spun, and weakend the gears...I dunno...guess theres a first for everything...
Check out how short the sleeve is...short conrod and medium looking stroke....makes for a hgher reving TQ monster....

The engine isn't all that...It could probably handle the X spur/CB combo...But I wouldn't...if anything, just go up a tooth on the CB...
I had my retired(wore out) HotMod Nova 528 laying i a bucket for nearly a year...I decided to tear it down and clean it up...I installed it last night, and it just rips the 5.9 alive...So much, it has convinced me to eiher buy a new P/S for the Nova, or most probably buy the new 7 transfer port truggy Nova(bumpstart), and swap cranks with a 528xra/xrs so that I can rotostart it....

The heatsink cover doesn't reach the rear shock tower...

I shortened my breakin and gave full wood by the 4th or 5th tank...
I really don't plan to keep the NS 5.9 engine in it for too long...or pull it and start grinding on it's ports....reason why I don't want the heatsink protector on it...

It wheelies on occasions, but I can't seem to keep the slipper from slipping....I race tuned the fire out of it, and the engine has so much power, and my factory shift settings are too early for the tall 3rd gear...It pretty much skips first, right into a brief second gear, and into 3rd gear, in which is where it starts to slip....
I've tighten the heck out of the slipper, yet it still slips, which makes me believe that it's just the tall 3rd gear that comes too early and powerful motor as well as big tires that causes the slippage...

Whats with the motor guard it dont fit to short...that suchs

I am still trying to find that perfect tune...the engine is still a little fresh...so till I get some more fuel through her(gallon), I really don't knwo what to make of the motor...it makes good power though....for sure...

I'll try to post a vid of my run today(between the rain) here in a bit....

this happened shortly after...

http://www.dawgbonez.com/Videos/dawgbonez/MOV00112.MPG

The truck seems awesome so far...it can get with it when it hooks up and the slipper doesn't slip...Also when the throttle linkage will go wide open....At least I have this small issue where on occasions, the throttle doesn't open fully...I'm thinking it's the servo....My only other issue, is the 10foot turning radius....definetly need to figure houw to get more steering out of it.....as of now, the tie rods hit the rear-most shocks...

ok, so heres a further update on the xl. i was able to run another 4 tanks thru it today. again, im using byrons gen 2 30% fuel. so this is approx. my 12th tank. i really strated to lean it out, and all i can say is wow! i finally got the temps up to about 220f. did some gigh speed passes. shift points are pretty close, i noticed the carb. wasnt fully opening, so i adjusted the linkage untill i put it on my fm radio. i know im in the low 40's as far as top speed, as i leaned it out, it ran stronger & stronger. i started leaning the low end a little bit. can you say wheelie? stands right up on the rear wheels. its running better and beter each tank of fuel. for a big engine, it revs pretty high. im letting it cool down between tanks with the piston at bdc. this is the best its run. wheelies when you want them, lotta torque, pulls really hard, top speed is impressive for a truck this size. i would recommend taking your time and running more fuel thru it at 1/2 throttle during break in. like i said, im on like my 12th tank and its really waking up. im very impressed how it pulls hard, and the top speed is good. i can say i think i like it just as much as my lst 2, maybe a little bit more! i do have either a owb issue, or a gear inside the back plate that has possibly stripped, and it just spins sometimes when cranking, then it will catch. ill pull it apart later on and find out what has failed. all in all, this truck is totally awesome, and i would highly recommend it to anyone whos looking for a kick ass big truck. more to come later..................

Sounds like a OWB slipping for sure...it's probably just from running rich during breakin...it'll probably go away, although I would clean it, like you plan on doing...

The truck itself is just fast...I ran it down my drive way, and I was having to let off the throttle cause I was scared of not being able to stop it in time and running it into the road....Not that the brakes suck or anything...they're actually pretty damn good...and the tires are pretty kick butt too....but the thing is so damn big and fast....
I'm an avid LST2 fan..and have gone through 4 LST1's and 2 LST2's...Both racing and light bashing....and I'm really liking the heck out of this XL...

My one and only complaint with it as of now, is the steering radius...If I'm lucky, I may be able to turn it around within 10 ft.....any hinters in this area is definitely welcomed...

I have dumped the 5.9 though....I broke the rotostart on it, and installed a Nova 528 in it....And it just eats up the 5.9 x2.....I got a fairly nice tune on my pinchless Nova and took a small video from earlier....

It's got a little compression(head button on)...just no pinch...
But yeah it does rip up the 5.9....at least with stock gearing...
I have to say though..the 5.9 is definitely impressive for a .32+ motor...more so than the AE and CEN....

Some more vid...trying to adjust the tranny...but I got distracted by a dude, that was checking it out...and ended up BS'in with him more than tuning my truck....
