I am trying to choose the best 4-stroke glow engine for a Pulse XT 60. http://www.horizonhobby.com/Products/Default.aspx?ProdID=HAN4130

The recommended 4-stroke is a FA-100, but with the new FA-115 coming out, I would like to know which would be better. Would the 115 fit without modifications? If so, I would like the extra power.

http://www.horizonhobby.com/Products/Default.aspx?ProdID=SAIE115GK

Thanks for the help!!

The Saito 115 has the same size case as the .91, and more power than the 1.00. It should be a nice combo.

The only thing I would be concerned about is the distance from the firewall to the front of the cowl. I have a Pulse 40, and I put a Saito 82 on it. I had a tough time getting the engine close enough to allow the cowl to be mounted in the proper position.

According to the Saito 2008 catalog, the distance from the rear of the carb to the front of the crankshaft threads is 116 mm. (That is only 12 mm more than the same dimension is for the 82, and exactly the same as for the Saito 91.)

I don't know the distance from the front of the crankshaft to the front of the prop washer. That would have to be deducted from 116 mm to find out what the distance from the rear of the carb to the front of the prop washer would be.

If you had that dimension, then you could download the manual for the 60 sized Pulse, and you would know if this engine would fit well.

Or, you could just buy it and MAKE it fit!

I think that would be a very nice combo!

Thanks

That pointed me in the right direction. I downloaded the manual for the Pulse XT 60 and it shows the distance from the fire wall to the drive washer as 146mm, so there will be plenty of room. I ordered both, so now I am just hoping the Satio 115 is a good engine. I have only ever owned OS 2 strokes.

Yep, you should have PLENTY of room for your 115.

The 40-sized Pulse has that dimension listed as 102 mm, and the dimension for the Saito 82 I put on it was 104 mm. I had to get pretty creative to get the engine to fit in that space!

I"m sure you will be happy with your plane and engine combo. If you find you have any questions about your engine, come back here and ask. There is a lot of experience and wisdom available here. (Not me, but lots of others.....)

I just checked out the new 1.15 at Horizon's site, it is in the new style case, I've been trying hard to not be interested in getting one but am failing fast. I have an understanding with my LHS which is 370 miles from me, that I get the first of any new Saito model that comes out. Judging by the bore and stroke it should be a revver but will most likely be a torquer like the 1.25. Descisions, descisions.

Well I have mine ordered, the plane is shipping today but the engine is backordered...supposed to be in late may. What do you think the difference will be compared to the 100? I'm no engine expert. Do you think it will be more torquey than the 100? I am hoping it is better on fuel than the FA-125, I heard that thing is very thirsty.
Also any suggestions on what servos to put in this Pulse XT 60? I have a Futaba T6EX 2.4GHz.

Thanks!

My 1.25 is very economical on fuel.

That is the minimum size 4 stroke engine that Horizon recommends for the Pulse 60.

http://www.horizonhobby.com/Products/Default.aspx?ProdID=HAN4130

Your 91 should fly that plane just fine.

I was just flying my Pulse 40 Saturday, and I have to admit that I had forgotten how much fun that plane is to fly. If the Pulse 60 is as much fun as the 40 is, I may have to get one!
