can i have several engines with carbs, can i rig them to stay open all the time for control line purposes....

Hi Revver,

You can either wire the throttle arm fully open for flight, or if you've got access to a lathe, it's relatively easy to make venturis for them.

What motors are you using?

Yes

Also, if you have a friend who does machine work, have some simple venturis made and buy a replacement spray bar setup from a similar size engine.

BTW, some of the popular engines have C/L venturis etc available for them by their mfgs. It's worth looking for that or for the parts from other brands that might fit.

I have converted several engines from RC to CL.

Here is an OS Max-H .35 with an OS venturi I picked up at a local hobby shop.

The Veco .19 is the early plain bearing type.

The Webra .61 has a turned down Supertigre .51/56 venturi and NVA. Haven't run this one yet.

Your engine may have a screw that can hold the carb open. My OS-35FP that I have on a cardinal has an RC engine installed, I simply tightened up screw on the carb which locked the carb in the full open position. This eliminated the need to put a wire to keep the carb open.

You can also fly with throttle on CL, except for one model all of my models have throttle control

Fred, do use a 3-line control for throttle control?

Has a system ever been tried that couples the throttle to the elevator? I was thinking like a faired elev at part throttle and full deflection, up or down, giving full throttle?

Brodak.com sells the 3-line systems (handle and bellcrank are matched) but I have since changed over to the electronic control systems. Basically I have 2 lines, both insulated and then mount one or more servos in the model. The elevator is controlled by a typical stunt bellcrank and I fly with a stunt handle. But the flying lines are nylon coated salt water fishing leader that transmit a signal and ground down the two insulated lines. If the lines are not insulated system does not work.

You can use a servo driver for one function such as throttle or use the JR radio with DSC function to control the system. You can install a JR radio into a CL model, pull the crystals and hook up the system using the DSC system (direct servo conection) with the signal going down the insulated lines.

Most scale folks use the electronics, but due to line drag the insulated lines are not pratical for precision aerobatics. Carrier folks tend to use the 3-line systems even though the 2-line systems are legal for carrier.
