tonywayne -> simple power supply defect (5/6/2008 7:40:54 AM)

I purchased the DuraTrax Compact switching power supply stock number, DTXP4300 from Tower Hobbies. When I first clamped my field charger to the power supply I blew a fuse in my charger. The power switch on the charger was on before I clamped it up so I thought that might have caused it. I had to order a set of replacement fuses for my charger. When the fuses came in I tried it once more and it worked fine. It worked a few times after that before my charger blew another fuse. I was sure this time I had the power switch off first on my charger. I replaced fuse and this happened one more time. I began to inspect the terminal that came with the power supply and to my surprise and discus I discovered that the red and black polarity sticker was backwards on one side! This explained it all. It would be nearly impossible to notice this. The few times that a fuse didn’t blow was when I got lucky and wasn’t looking at the side with the backwards sticker when I clamped on. I carefully pilled the sticker off and placed it on right. No reversed polarity/no blown fuses since. If you seen the terminal you would understand better what im talking about. Polarity color coded on both sides. It is impossible to notice one sticker being backwards on one side when this is the only id of polarity besides very small + and – symbols on circuit board. Bad Ju-ju for tower/duratrax
