Can anyone tell that the Leading edges on both sides were completely destroyed? It's not perfect, but it works. I flew it tonight, flys ok.
I am still going to build another one !

    Sincerely,

I wouldn't count mine as a RX failure. It was definitely a bad installation and the fact I had my antenna pointing at the plane rather than bent up at the elbow. One antenna of the main receiver was tucked under the caps for the ESC and the satellite receiver was sitting right next tot he battery and completely occluded at the angle I was flying. I think we get a bit complacent with our spektrum receiver installs.

    Gryphon,
Looks good. It should be much easier to see flying as fast as you fly O Prop Master!

    Brazman,
Will rethink my next install. I am considering options as far as
mounting my dual Spektrum receivers away from my battery.

    Thanks,
    Speeddriven

    Brazman, Speeddriven,

Par6 6 thread, page 9, post # 205 has some of my pics of previous Stryker.

    Link:
    http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_6069877/mpage_9/key_/tm.htm

    See pic #3, 4, 5, 6, 7.

My main receiver was next to ESC, but the antenna was on the other side of receiver, and the antenna wires were pointing up.

The satellite receiver was on left side of battery dug into foam side wall and flush mounted with piece of clear packing tape holding it in. Its antenna wires were going out to its sides, which makes it pointing to front of Stryker and to rear of Stryker.

***The the two pairs of antennas are pointing at 90 degrees to each other: main unit antenna wires standing up Vertical, while satellite unit antenna wires were Horizontal.

See page 14 and page 15 of radio manual:
    http://www.horizonhobby.com/ProdInfo/Files/SPM2710_DX7_Manual.pdf

It does say that antenna wires being at 90 degrees orientation is not critical, but they want the two receivers to be at least 2" apart.

    __________________

Page 15 of radio manual does say conductive materials, for example; carbon fiber can attenuate the signal.

The remote receiver wires are available in various lengths.

    Cooling:

    Air inlet:

    1) For more cooling air to battery:
I open up the stock F-27C scoop a little further by removing some of the scoops floor starting from rear towards the front:

One of the pics shows about 1/3" of scoop’s floor removed from rear forward.
The other shows the whole floor was removed and the triangle is completely open.

    2) For more cooling air to side of battery and/or ESC:
Open up the side air inlets and angle the opening on the inside to where you need it to be.
Usually about 1/2" in diameter and take care to not damage the outside edge of the air inlets. Use hobby knife or similar at the outside edge of air inlets.

    ____________

    Room for air to exit:

I believe the credit for this mod goes to LT-40. I had said to lengthen and widen the slots of the rear cover, but he did it in a easier, faster, and more effective way and I like it.

The included picture does not show the mod, but it still helps in visualization.

Every other pair of slot was connected to make a large rectangular opening. Just snip the black plastic between the two slots and you get a large opening. The opening is still too small to have anything fall out of it. That will help in getting the air out, so there is more room for air to come in.

This will increase the cooling air's volume flow rate under the hatch and that gives you more cooling.

I didn't touch the first 3 slots because I didn't want the air to exit too quickly before getting to ESC.
Also right after 3rd slot, I cut the forward section of rear hatch off so I could glue/epoxy it to the front two hatches to form 1 long hatch.

My rear hatch has 6 rectangular openings.

End of rear hatch got a semi circle cut out of it so the motor wires could easily go under the hatch.

    Gryphon,

That is almost exactly how mine was installed. The only difference is the satellite receiver antenna orientation was vertical and my main receiver was oriented longitudinally. The batteries occluded most of it from the right side and I'm guessing the main antenna was picking up some serious noise being parallel to the ESC battery wires. I am locating the satellite antenna in the cavity in front of the front air scoop. The antenna will be oriented vertically with the top one protruding from a small hole in the hatch. The main receiever will be oriented the same as yours although hopefully with the antenna oriented laterally accross the plane. The should give me outstanding reception from pretty much all angles. I am also swapping the receiver to a brand new one to elinated hardware the possibilty of hardware issues. I will also put my antenna at right angles when I fly which may well have stopped me from crashing in the first place.

Hind site is a wonder thing.
It's always a good thing to take some time after each flight and, in my case, after each crash to think the events thru and learn what went wrong and why.

I learned that I have a habit of pointing the tx antenna right at the plane. Don't even know I'm doing it most times. So now I have to make a mental note NOT to do that especially during a high stress moment.......you know the time when you go beyond your capabilities ( You ALMOST crash)

I can't tell you the number of times I almost smashed the tx into the ground as I was learning to fly.
Things break and fail. So take a moment and check out what happened, even if your the problem. You can work to fix it and make you a better pilot.
I use the free FMS sim. to practice. I found that you can go in and change the numbers of each program to adjust the plane to behave as your plane flys in the real world. It's not perfect but very close. Yes it has a Stryker in there. Dupron Jet on the 2nd thread ( I think) tells how to go in and paint the thing to match your plane.

The point is the more you fly and practice flying the better you become.

The more time you put into accident time the better you become.

Save your old fuse, at least 2, so you do operations on them to learn how to make it better- or try out paint and coverings or try using a lite weight wall filler to cover dents and dings.

    NIGHT RIDER IS almost complete.

Have to go to the LHS to get a male deans plug for the ESC. Funny how 1 small part can ground you. Oh well !!! That's what makes the RC hobby fun.

i've been flying my stryker for a couple months now, will a smaller prop with a slightly greater pitch give more speed?

    AND HERE IT IS !!!!!!!!!!!

The bottom is not finished as I need to tweak the servo arms. Bottom is solid black with flours. 2" wide strips following the leading edge. Everything works. Yeah !!!!
Oh and install the battery seat belts-can't forget those.

Canopy is all hand made and screws down. I like the screw down as I have been know to toss the battery even with a belt.
