Thanks to both ChippedProp and to Gryphon for their PM's. Each referred me to earlier threads covering the elevon build. I'll see how it goes. regards, Richg99

    chippedprop,

Congrats on the maiden flight brother,

I know there will be all kinds of wattmeter measurements, radar run numbers, pics and videos coming from various motors (3) on that beast.

Good talking to you earlier today.

I think you need to get the whole assembly as the mcfarfel valve is press fitted and doesn't come out easy.

Repairs are done \o/ You would never know it had been crashed. The repairs weigh 15 grams or half an oz. which I'm happy with although a little disappointed at the same time that I have had to add weight for no real gain. I am very happy that I didn't have to build another one though.

I have replaced the ar6200 with a new one and also fitted hs85mg servos. I have ordered a set of 5085mg's as well though I have no eta on these and I doubt they will make it for the maiden (which could be as soon as tomorrow if everything works out).

I also have some good news and bad news too. Bad news is I did a static test on a near full pack and pulled just over 2000 watts so I doubt it will be anywhere near 2000 watts in the air. The good news is that it will be nowhere near 2000 watts in the air and if i'm getting over 140+ mph on 1800 ish watts who knows what I will get on 2800 watts if I can get there.

After seeing my comment on Brians cools fins a few days ago it got me thinking about my own verticals. I have redesigned them with more sweap and less of an angle on the rear to get as much surface area as far back as possible. Hopefully will stop it wagging it's tail in slow turns. They are a little taller than the previous verticals though if they work well I may cut them down a little.

Just got back from trimming the new ride out. All done this baby is zeroed in. In my haste on Friday I forgot to tape the small hinge gap. Did that and made a big diff.
Flys SOOOO smooth. Elevons reset. Trim on radio reads +2 up elev. and +8 on als. Rechecked thrust line and is dead on, no drift up or down when power off and then WOT

Still running the same set up as in above post. Does have unlimited vert. with current set up, which was a must. So a bigger prop will really make it go ballistic.
You should see the rolls- axle. On the past ones it was always a little off. Got this right.
May have to add so more color as it's a little hard to see at distance.

Gryphon and I will get together ASAP.

Gryphon you better practice flying. Your going to love this one.

Well I got mine out today at the fly in in Escanaba. It was a fun one. I had to make new pushrods last night (easy 4-40 rod) and reset them up. Today was a remaiden sort of....lol. My pal Ryan gave it a good huck and off she went. It burned holes in the sky for about 5 minutes beofre bringing it in. I had to fly with some left aileron input because stupid me forgot to reset my trims when I put the new pushrods on. Therefor it was already trimmed to the left all the way from the last set up. I will fix and redo again next week. I forgot how fun it was.

I ended up cutting my 6.5x6 to a 6x6 and I loved it. It climbed like a scared monkey. I swear it was going to punch a hole in the cloud. I would say my top speed was around 125 today. No solid evidence but I know what 138 feels like and 125 as well. It was around there. Made the shrike seem slow. I bet it was hitting around 100.

I got it to hover for about 15 seconds while up about 100 feet. Also harriered about 50 feet up right in front of runway. I was higher than a kite when flying this one. Made me about 100lbs lighter. What a rush.

    Thanks Gryph!

    Kevin

P.S. Go MEGA! Once you do you won't go back!

Ok Mr. Mugen....I am right on the fence for getting a mega 16/25/3 but since my Eflite 2700 still lives I guess I have to live with it a while longer. I really think I will move my 2700 to my glider pod and move the stryker up to the mega. Should be interesting!!!

    AeroRecon,

Mr. Mugen has the 16/25/2 2650KV because he has a large 4S cell pack flowing 80A to 90+A.

Due to your ESC and battery packs, 16/25/3 1700KV is the right choice for you, later when you double your 3S pack for 6S, the packs will weigh the same and the motors can make the same power.

This 1700KV motor will handle more amps and more cells than your current E-flight six series 2700KV.

Gryph, et al...is there a "primer" printed someplace on the web where a rookie can find out about all of the various motor applications and prop/amp/power/battery needs?

I understand outboard motors some...and I can relate to changing out the prop; raising/lowering the engine; changing the engine h.p. choice....etc....to get different propulsion choices. But, somehow... the numbering system on these r/c outrunner/inrunner motors leaves me way too confused. Any suggestions appreciated. Thanks Richg99

Aerorecon....you won't be disappointed if you get one. They are worth the extra 20 bucks over the Eflite. I had several eflite six series motors and they rock but the mega is a smokin set up. I had mine hitting 138 this winter with a 4s 3850 V2 TP pack, CC125 esc, heat sink (not needed but used anyway), 6mm gold connectors, 2 hs-82mg servo's (next plane will have different servos....these developed slop rather quickly), CC BEC, MedUsa Opto isolator, and a 2.4 Fasst rx. She screams like mad.

Drawing around 92A cont on a 6.5x6 with outside temps at 10 above F.
