I think I'm interested in taking a step up from my 1/10 Kyosho FW-05T. There's a beautiful free public track just down the road, and meanwhile I don't have many places to run my four offroaders.. And the Kyosho kind of suprises me every time I take it out - 1.) that it still runs, having so often seen temps near 400..., and 2.) it's just fast and fun to drive.. I must say too, I like that it doesn't seem to require so much maintenance and upkeep as the offroaders..

There's a guy at the track though who was recently running a 1/8 Serpent with Ninja 21... It was, without a doubt, the fastest, most shockingly fast RC car I've ever seen.. It was UNBELIEVABLE.. - literally breathtaking..

Anyway, I've looked around, and can't find much of them, either on German or US ebay.. Somebody told me to look up the Mugen - what, the MX4 T or something? On German e-bay there's also something called a Shepherd..

Then there's the Kyosho Inferno GT - which yeah looks good, has a decent price, and probably the best parts availability.. But I've read a few threads on it and it seems it's got some issues?? - 2-speed, etc.. Or should it be an option?? I don't really want to spend a grand on an onroader - no competition plans - just messing around at this local track..

How fast could I get with an Inferno GT??

So I guess my questions are 1.) where do you find the best prices for these Serpent 960R's or whatever, or the Mugen, or anything else you think I ought to consider??(1a. Should I consider the Kyosho??) And 2.) What would be a good cheaper alternative to the Ninja for such an onroader?? No idea what servos I would need, but I would definitely be starting cheap - again, no racing in the plans.. Just speed and messing around.

I don't know any shops in Germany so maybe try asking that guy who was at the track. If you want a 1/8 on road I would recomended buying the car that is most used at that track so you can share setups, spares etc. The main ones at the moment are the Serpent 960 (don't get the 950r as parts are discontinued now), Mugen MRX4 (the MTX is 1/10), Sheperd Velox (which won the German nationals I believe), Motonica P08.R and the Kyosho Evolva.

For an engine I would go for the Picco P9 Evo2. It is cheap (comparatively speaking), powerful, and it is easy to break in which is everything you would need. The ninja is a fast engine but they have alot of issues. As far as I see about 50% of people who buy them have alot of problems with them.

Kyosho Inferno GT - Isn't a true on road racer, its a buggy converted to go on road, it won't be as fast as the car you saw but it will be a hell of alot cheaper and still fun. If you don't want to spend a massive amount it will probably be the best option at the moment. Have a look at this site. The prices are quite high there but it will give you a general idea about what stuff is available at the moment and how much they are.

Thanks for the answer.. Yeah, I think the Kyosho would make more sense for me.. There seem to be a lot of parts available online here (I assume quite a few are interchangeable with the buggies..), and yeah, there's not much sense in spending a ton on a top-line race car if I'm not gonna race..

As it stands now though, I guess it'd either be a new IGT, or a used deal on one of the others...

How significantly would that Picco up the speed in the IGT(and I assume it'd be a straight-up drop in?? - I have a startbox..)??...

the Kyosho evolva is the best 1/8 out there but itll cost you areound $2500 for everything when youre done. Thats as cheap as they go basically.

Well I agree with f-13...if you want the top gun you should definately get the new evolva M3.

Hmm... Thanks for the tip - basically, I'm looking to spend €500.. So I guess that leaves me with the IGT.. Fair enough.. Pillbots' advice seems pretty sound, and I think he's right that I'd still have fun with it, even though a $2500 Evolva would obviously be way faster.. So yeah, things seem to be leaning towards the IGT..

Ignore people who say X car is the best, there is no best car (in this class anyway), just they have had more exposure to a car so they prefer it. And it may interest some of those M3 fans that the current world champion used the 05' version of the Evolva in this years world championships when both the 07' and M3 versions were available and were in use by other Kyosho drivers. Proof that newer isn't always better.

Anyway, about your question about the picco - its a very good engine in a 1/8th on road but they are quite different cars for a couple of reasons:

1. They are lighter - Those cars take alot less torque to get them out of corners quickly (they are about 1KG lighter I belive)
2. They are 2 speed - This helps to keep them in the high rpm range for longer so they spend less time at low so the power band isn't that suitable.

Although I don't know what would be a good engine in these cars I can recommend sticking with the standard engine for now and familiarize yourself with the car first.

are you kidding? theres a "best" car in every class, and theres no denying that the evolva has more wins than any other 1/8th out there. Its the most proven design, but ofcourse its possible to win with say a mugen or a motonica. And basically, they all run within that price range, so price isnt the thing that changes standings. The IGT is a great choice btw, and if you ever want to, you could always save up for a used 1/8 from ebay or something, and get stuff like that for under $1500 all togetrher.

Gees, somone else who has jumped on the evolva band wagon. I can't be bothered to debate with you as in a week this thread will be forgotton, I would have wasted my time and it wouldn't help anyone anyway. So there is no point.

im not a 1/8th guy in the first place, but im just saying that theres no doubt that its most popular car now, and basically, wins the most races. Youll probably find the most support with them. The only thing i see that is designed better is the motonica, which is like $1000 for just the kit. That new TM concept looks great as well. [;)]

Well technicaly EVOLVA M3 is the best so far. Lowest center of gravity ever, smoothest belt rolling, stiffest suspenssion arms ever and many many more. So from that point of view it's the best. Now Mr.Collari runs with his 05 version cause his mods in associaton with kyosho are better than the M3 version...but you can't buy Mr.Collari's car can you??? [:)]

It's a very good car for what it is, almost up with the top racers once you've dialed it in well.

yeah great car i used to race it. i was pretty easy to set it up, but hard to replace broken pieces. with a ggod engine you can compete with the best....

I've seen the Inferno GT on youtube and it looks plenty fast for me. I'm thinkin the same as you on whether I should purchase one too?

A bit of topic but can i ask if you have changed the engine on the 05T? If so, did you have to buy a 3d clutch to use the engines? Just curious, I have one too and have problems with what motor to upgrade it to.

Im not sure I understand what you want. The Kyosho IGT is a street racer, the Serpent, Evolva, ect, thier for the track and nothing else so it depends what you want to do.

The Kyosho IGT - Sounds like it has its problems does it ? Well Lol youd be right !

But

The car is very versatile theres really nothing else like it in its class except maybe the ofna which I dont know much about. The IGT comes in at a good price point and so doing the mods needed is affordable - Once its out of the way you have a great car that IMO is the best there is for its purpose, that is 1/8 scale onroad street racing/bashing.

You need

Brakes
Tires
2 speed
Clutch
Front torque rod
Steering linkage
High torque servos

It sounds like alot I know but IMO the cars no good without all of that - MAybe you can get away with not having the servos I suppose. For the 2 speed I used a serpent, others have used evolva, others have modded the existing one, ect.

There are many upgrades that can be done to the Inferno GT...It will never handle as well as the Evolva or Serpent on a closed track......But it certianly can be made to give it good a run in a strait line...hehehe.... and yes the rear tires are backwards in this pic....sorry...it was late in the day....65+mph...oh yea this one has an Evolva 2 speed changer....smooth as silk

I am running the only alternitive to Bill9s' car which is ofna's. The GTP. Fantastic little car. I have the dirt oval version with a Axial .28, Hitec 645MG steering and a standard ofna TH/B servo. Pipe wise I am using a Dynamite Platinum 053. I dont run a 2-speed. Its a single spool center. 50k/15k F/R diff oil and this car handles great. Nothing like those top end race cars but for what it is. Using a 16tooth CB At the moment and wow faster than I thought it would be. I am moving to a 18t cb soon that should be about the sweet spot there.
