Status: offline 		I've been getting back into RC after about a 13 year break and this time I'm actually a lot further into it that I was before. I was just into bashing around parking lots. Now, given that I have a couple of great tracks near my house, I've decided that I'm going to really get into racing. And to tell the truth, I've never been happier with a hobby.....

Now, here's my problem. I hope I can put it into perspective....

When I'm practising, I often find that the car is really strange for about he first 2 laps or so.
The car seems to be really hard to control. When I turn the wheel, it seems to really shoot off in that direction.

I'm not quite sure what it is. If could be that the tires are either too sticky and I'M not used to it, or they're not sticky enough and need the time to get back to temp. It could be just that I'm using too much of the wheel and it takes me that little bit of time to get back into using it the right way.

But after a couple of laps, everything sorts itself out and I'm off and running again. Needless to say, my first couple of laps are really embarrassing.

Once I finish my run, cool the car off and set up to do another run, it's back to crazy time again...

This is concerning me because when I do start racing, my first couple of laps are going to be crazy. That just isn't going to be an option as I'm sure it'll case all sorts of problems. So other than starting from the back, what am I to do?

Is this just something that gets better with Practice?

Does this happen to anyone else?

Oh, and for those who want to know. I'm running a TA05R, basically as it is but with Carbon Shock Mounts. Sorex tires and I'm using Team Orion Tire Traction. The motor is an alex racing 23 turn.

Status: offline 		Perhaps after a while of driving, the tires warm up so they get a little better traction.

Status: offline 		I think it is just taking you a while to get used to the car when your first start your run, and then you sort of adapt to the way the car handles and drives. Your probably just over-steering like many do. If you have a radio with dual rate, try dialing out some steering if you think you have to much to handle. You could also try and set the car up to handle less twitchy and less aggressive, making it easier to drive. Just have a couple of guys at the track help your set it up, or read up on it in the manual. Hope that helps.

Status: offline 		Are you using traction compound? If so that could be the problem. Although traction compound does make the tires softer and stickier it can actually make them feel greasy at first. The trick is to take a towel and rub the excess compound off before your run.

EDIT: Just re-read your post and it looks like you are using traction compound. Your car is sliding around the first few laps because of the excess compound. At my track a lot of the racers hold the car in their hand and rub it diagonally across the carpet to remove the excess compound. Or you can use a towel like I said above.

Status: offline 		I wipe on the Traction compound and leave it for anywhere between 10 and 15 minutes.. I don't use tire warmers (yet) and the tires seem to be "dry" when I get back on the track. I'll give them a wipe next time and see how it goes. Thanks for your reply.
