StlPilot.... google "xbox ring of death"

those things break all the time... I should know I have had 3

and small park fliers can be had for < 100.00

not everyone is able to afford a da-150.... I can't but I fly everyday

DJ I've been in RC and an avid gamer. A small park flyer for an RC addict is like buying an Atari 2600 with 1 cartridge of Asteroids for gamer. It's gets you in the door, but doesn't satisfy the addiction. To satisfy the addiction in RC takes thousands, many thousands. If you're not there yet you will be. Oh and next time you buy a console get the 3 yr extended warranty, best $50 you can buy. Yet another safety net you can't get for you RC plane, crash insurance.

DJ,

I think if you do some research you'll find many highly accomplished African American RC pilots amongst the ranks and onboard many noteworthy RC teams. Since this is the profile forum this thread would probably get better attention in one of the general forums like maybe the clubhouse or such. I'll share one story with you though. When I was a young kid learning to fly RC my friend and I often went to EP Tom Sawyer park in Louisville to learn the ropes. A very nice man was always eager to help us out and he became sort of a mentor to us. I'll never forget some of the pattern lessons and tips he gave me. Not only was he a teacher at the field but he was a high school music teacher as well. His name is Louis Patton and he's still a dear friend on mine and we enjoy talking about those old days every time we meet at events. Now since I'm the older guy I consider it my duty to take care of the young kids at the field and teach then the ropes. Just part of the hobby in my book.

Yes! Research... I read the mags and check online, they are there... but how many? 2 or 3? I read my addition of fly RC today and do you know how many were in there? ONE......... That is why he started this post to find them, see who they are and get to know what got them started, for them to share some experiences like you just shared with us now...

Oh, I've seen some events with Louis Patton.... He flys jets also doesn't he?

DJ< I still can't believe you're black. LOL!!!!
And yeah I can see wanting to find others of the same interests, and of the same creed. For some it's a comfort zone to be with folks of their creed and fit in, if you will.

Some folks may tend to feel uncomfortable mixing with folks of a different color.

But just to let you know, if you show up at the fly in, I'm going to treat you just as badly as I treat the rest of the guys, like pieces of doggie doo doo.
Cause You know I/we Badius boys, we're all bros.

Your answer is simple, but it takes a lot of work ... you have to market your product/program better than Sony, Nintendo and Xbox, while at teh same time realizing that their market, brand and products are powerful and very cheap. Did you get my last PM with info to the online presentation?

I didn't know you needed to be rescued. I thought that damsels were the ones needing rescue . For us guys no matter how bad it gets I thought we were supposed to think we had them right where we want them. Kind of like what Chesty said when told he was surrounded, "Good, now we can shoot any direction and hit the enemy"

Hello everyone. Just found this thread, but have been reading with much interest. I too am a black R/C pilot. I joined the hobby back in the late 80's. For me, its always a welcomed event when a fellow RC pilot of color comes aboard. I'm down here in the south, so black pilots are even more infrequent than in other parts of the country. I think this is like most other day to day experiences in that most people find it natural to want to know of others like themselves that may share a common interest. I take notice of other black pilots that appear, but I welcome them and all others into the hobby just the same.

I was fiirst welcomed into the hobby by our local hobby shop owner. He welcomed my brother and myself in and taught us both to fly back in '87. The club made us feel totally a part of them and just three years later I was nominated and voted in as club president. Only once in all the years did I hear of or feel any animosity from anyone. It happened when a new member moved in from Louisiana and joined the club. He made some inappropriate comments to some other members and those club members stood up and set him straight right away, letting him know that none of that would be allowed in this club. I can't say enough about the great guys in that club and the great people in this hobby in general.

CopperheadAV ... Tim, .... 'Betcha didn't know that I was black? ... Well, certainly it makes no difference anyway. Just wanted to say that the fact this thread exists is no bad thing. .. Hey, .. Luv'd my Venom 45 engine! I'd still have it but the plane it was on was sold, and the engine went with it (A testament of how great they performed together). You know what they say ... Money Talks !!!!
