I recently acquired a M.E.N. Buzzard Bombshell kit, but I am not sure how old this kit really is. The kit came with an ad for RCM subscription which listed RCM as starting their 13th year - but I am not sure when RCM started. I'm guessing the kit dates from the late 70's. Does anyone know how old this kit really is and how it flies? I have an already built Bombshell which flies great, but this one uses slightly different construction from the one I have.

RCM started October 1963. I have all the issues through 1971 and their last issue. They quit leaving me with about 10 issues due!

Dan, thanks - in 1963 I was around, but not quite old enough to be building and flyin' rc!! I thought I remembered reading RCM in high school (1969-72), but I just wasn't sure.

I just sold a Buzzard Bombshell kit with a 1979 newspaper used to wrap some parts. The wood was ingood shape. The kit used plywood for the sides.

Late 1970s is correct. We used to sell this model kit at the Hobby Market in Ft. Worth, TX in the late 1970s.

As far as I can tell this is the first ad for the MEN Buzzard Bombshell to appear in RCM. It is from the August 1976 issue.

If you really need to know then you can contact Al's Hobbies in Norwalk, CT and ask for Jerry Jarvis, He was the owner of M.E.N.

I have an up to date version of the Buzzard Bombshell from "Spirit of Yesteryear" in Canada. You can get a very nice laser cut kit for $60.00us from them as well as a number of other
old timer models. Their's is an electric version. The web site is: www.soy.on.ca I have a couple kits purchased from them. They say that the Buzzard Bombshell was popular in the 40's.

The problem with the MEN kit was that it was too heavy for any purpose but sport flying. The construction was tank like.

It is a bit over built, but it's the best gliding tank I've ever seen.
