What you think? I will modify further the back links to align the wheels with the rear wells and some other goodies.

its pretty cool

chaman -> RE: Herbie:4x4 Offroad Project (5/9/2008 5:08:36 AM)

Roller! For real now...

Had to adjust all the links so the body rests now lower and aligned. Now I need to securely attach the body to the chassis. I plan on adding lights front and rear only. I may need to scratchbuild an engine for the back.....

Pics...

chaman -> RE: Herbie:4x4 Offroad Project (5/11/2008 1:59:44 AM)

Update!

Some tube work at back as well as motor plate ready for the engine. I already paint it white to match the body work.

drevil -> RE: Herbie:4x4 Offroad Project (5/11/2008 8:14:37 AM)

Nice looking rig. You should have the pulleys on the motor actually spin via a small electric motor out of a servo or a micro heli.

What shocks are those? How about body off shots?

chaman -> RE: Herbie:4x4 Offroad Project (5/12/2008 4:25:59 AM)

Update!

More work done a lot still to go...at least looks like a motor thing going on there! LOL!

chaman -> RE: Herbie:4x4 Offroad Project (5/12/2008 4:55:59 AM)

The truck will have two fuel lines at each end feeding double carburetors...

More or less like this:

As you can see its not exactly the same but close and in the end the engine will be partially concealed with the body. I want to have just enough texture there to resemble the real thing.

chaman -> RE: Herbie:4x4 Offroad Project (5/12/2008 4:57:40 AM)

BTW there seems to be few VW lovers here...LOL!

ravenlunatic -> RE: Herbie:4x4 Offroad Project (5/12/2008 5:27:53 PM)

i'm diggin' that rig! nice job!

chaman -> RE: Herbie:4x4 Offroad Project (5/13/2008 12:36:44 AM)

Decided to go with MSD ignition components in this one...LOL!

No turning back now. What bothers me is the Herbies Decals....Any help in this matter would be appreciated!

chaman -> RE: Herbie:4x4 Offroad Project (5/16/2008 5:24:57 AM)

Bit of update. Continued with the carbs and fuel lines. I decided to cut the body a little to better fit over the engine. (this is a real vintage Beetle body!) Oh well...!

Planning on fabricating a low profile spoiler for the back to enhance the look. I got to figure a way of cleanly installing the body without holes in it.

Some pics...

hands without shadows -> RE: Herbie:4x4 Offroad Project (5/17/2008 5:32:45 PM)

The engine looks good. Before it looked like a brake rotor and a busted skateboard [:D]

chaman -> RE: Herbie:4x4 Offroad Project (5/17/2008 5:52:08 PM)

Weathering makes a lot of difference. When the car sits complete the engine will blend with the rest. Slowly the skateboard truck will continue to be less obvious and become the fuel line splitter. Thanks for your comments.

chaman -> RE: Herbie:4x4 Offroad Project (5/18/2008 4:17:13 AM)

Exhaust finally finished except for the final weathering. I think I will move to do some body work soon and start thinking of what the direction will be in terms of doing a kickass trailer to make my RustBucket drag the ******* Herbie around! You think I should do this or go with a Whitebone?

Anyway some pics are in order:

looks good what size is this? Looks kinda big! I like the shocks!

chaman -> RE: Herbie:4x4 Offroad Project (5/18/2008 10:35:52 PM)

Its a Monster Beetle body in 1/10 scale.

chaman -> RE: Herbie:4x4 Offroad Project (5/19/2008 3:15:33 AM)

Primer is on! Some imperfections still need to be corrected though. Im glad how filling the body holes turned out. It looks completely different without that horrible red color, it starts to look like a real scale rig!!

Are those regular trail doctors or XL trail doctors? Happen to know anywhere that stocks them? (the trail doctor site is out of stock...as usual)
