Here are some pictures of my latest Dust I just finished this is the 35" model with West 50. I also have some pictures of a spare Clipped Dust I'm building in the jig I use. I have another jig for the full span model, they come out square and true everytime using it.

Nice to hear that you got a RC speed sanctuary. It's the neighbors that turned our local club into a shadow of it's former self. Thankfully there is still open land nearby for the time being. So it looks like you're all set for the summer, are you going to have any competition in the speed department?

Actually I have a place to fly if anything ever happened to the club it's just more fun hanging out with the members. Actually there isn't any competition I'm the only real speed freak but everybody does there own thing and has fun watching what everybody else is doing.
Chuck , very nice dust you will love it with that engine combo
i am a great weston fan and i own 3 of them, one is in my laser arow
a guy from norway made good speed measurements with the eagle tree logger , your dust will be 15 to 30 miles faster it is not a brig like the laser. cheers and have fun Michael
My Laser Arrow has the following performance with a West 50 engine
Prop Max RPM Max Speed km/h Max Speed miles/h APC 9x7 19710 226 140 APC 9x8 ? 237 147 APC 9x9 17730 233 145 APC 8x9 20026 244 152
Everything measured with Eagle Tree Systems flight data recorder. I'm trying out the west engine in the Laser Arrow in preparation for the MagnumR. I must say, the Laser arrow handles very well, it is a delight to fly even though the speed is quite frightening. Launch, even with the 8x9 it is no problem. But it IS fast, and the first landing is A challenge, even if the low-speed handling is very good. I havn't broken a prop yet, although the engine refuse to stop with the throtle CLOSED. Definetly worth its price! Skarven http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_3756696/anchors_3756696/mpage_1/key_laser%252Carrow/anchor/tm.htm#3756696

be carefully with the pipe coupler(silicon coupler) its very short and with some oil on it its slippery. mine came of and the genesis pipe did hit the ailerons hard and my laser turned into a death spiral.
couple of ribs where broken , the good thing is now its time to mount the data logger parts into the fuselage.

Those are pretty imrpessive speed numbers for a big delta like the Arrow, it is so much fatter than a Dust. If I ever finish mine, I am mounting a piped rear exhaust .60 pattern engine, and I bet it will be no faster and likely slower than yours. I have a West .50 V1 too, and it is a wickedly powerful and easy handling engine, the only engine out there that I have ever owned that dare sit in the same aisle as a Jett. Though I bet they break more conrods.

That is REAL impressie fo the Laser Arrow. I am shocked to be honest although I never got close to those numbers with my West-50. I was about 17.7K with a 9x8, not a 9x9
A Dust with the West on an 8x8 would just be stupid-fast...
MJD- I mounted my piped side exhaust Rossi-60 (modified by the great Chuck Auger) onto my Oakdale models Phenom! I have not flown it yet though...Just thought it'd be a kick to use a 60 piped on there and I built a dolly-
I run what I got and until I score another YS-45RE off Fleabay or something this is it!

ChuckL, very nice work!! Looks great. Your jig is cool too. Freakingfast here on RCU has a nice DD jig too. I got a NIB DD kit last winter. I copied the ribs and made a kit to build so I preserved the original. I've got a couple of projects in the works, so my DD will be built later this summer.
I've flown a buds DD with a .32 SX several times, so I'm pretty excited to have one of my own.
My LE tubes are same as stock, but I decided to go with a full length .370 OD tube for the spar, rather than the 3 piece original kit style.
What's the best way to go about building the jig? Do you just frame up the 1st DD then build the jig around the 1st planes frame up?
Is that the Jett tank? Some guys with a DD and several very nice Helis came to the Lodi WI fun fly last summer. They had a Jett tank on thier DD, and it performed great. I was wondering which one to get.

Thanks Staightup, my jig is simple I just took a piece of 3/4 ply just because thats what I had and taped the plans down on it and covered them with some plan protector plastic. I used I think they are 1X2 pieces of oak from Home Depot and screwed them down aligned with the inside egde of the LE tubes and the TE stock, these are screwed right down on the plans. I just have some finish nails sticking up behind the TE stock on the top of the 1X2 for it to butt up too. 2" L brackets are screwed down on the outside egde of the ribs to clamp them too and also L brackets up against inside edge of LE 1X2s to clamp the rods too. I also notched out the 1X2s where the ribs are so the can be glued and tied. I'll get some more pictures of just the jig in the next couple days.
I bought a Full span kit and a clipped kit years ago and have just scratch built them ever since and the jig makes it so easy to frame one up and make it straight.
