I decided to give my trx a last chance run. I have been trying to get it to run decent on and off for 2 years. It doesn't tune and I get fustrated and let it sit for another few months. I decided to give it another go and sealed the carb and backplate. I usually run the traxxas plugs (part#3232) and decided to use a different brand. I used the o.s. #8.

What a difference. I don't know if it was sealing the engine or the plug, but I was actually able to keep it running. The only thing was I could not get the idle down. It would roll at idle no matter what I did. I had to change my spur gear, so I do not know if I may have something there not set right.

It seemed to run fairly well. Seemed a litlle sluggish on top end. Then my glow plug went bad. 1.5 tanks. The plug was a little wet and still shiney. So I'm thinking I may have been a little rich on the high speed needle?

Any thing you guys could add to help me get this thing running decent would be greatly appreciated. Sorry for the long post.

Did you mess any with the idle adjust screw?

have you checked the temps?? my engine likes to run best at 290 degrees, and if i lean it out a little bit it stalls at high speed. and mine trys to creep along when it idels, so i just learned to hold the brakes when i stop

Yes, I adjusted the idle screw and it didn't seem to affect anything. I haven't checked the temps.

You should screw it in to lower the idle, I believe.

if you've got the air leaks beat
then you just need to retune the engine

start at factory base settings and tune
hsn - 2 1/2 turns out
lsn - 1 3/4 turns out
idle - 1.5mm opening in carb throat

this may help you

Ran it again today. It ran really well got the idle down, still not enough to keep it from rolling. But it ran well enough to put the body on it and drive it for a while. So it was sitting there idling and I was putting the body on it and it shut off. It idled for about 45 seconds to a minute. No problem I thought, tried to start it back up, nothing. The glow plug was bad again. Brand new plug lasted about a tank this time. With what I spent in plugs trying to get this thing to run I could have bought a new motor. Its running good now, just eating plugs. I don't know what the temps where, I don't have a temp gun, guess I need to invest it one. Any ideas guys?

You're not tuned right yet. Read that link from Paris Racing, it's the very best there is. Oh, and no properly tuned nitro engine should run for 45 seconds to 1 minute.

Thanks Dave. I thinking maybe I'm still lean. Causing the element in the glow plug to go bad really fast. Maybe running to hot?

It has been in the low 80's here when I have been running. Do you think it would benefit me to run a cooler plug. The o.s. # 8 is a hot plug, the #3 is supposed to be a little cooler.

Mine will idle, it just eats plugs. I'm going to order some of the A5's and R5's and see how they last.
