Hi,
I want to play around with the helicopter in FMS.
I can't figure out the controls for it.
My throttle starts at 1/2. If I go below that the chopper spins on the ground.
Don't have much of a clue what should go where and what some of the terms mean.
Any help would be appreciated.

Have you tried calibrating in Window first.
Controlpanel, then gamepad,
Select your controller , then select properties. This will bring up a calibration menu.

After you do that, Calibrate and map in FMS
Select controller then select calibrate and mapping
Assign the tail,nick, pitch, roll acordingly.

Pitch is what makes the heli gose up or down (changing the ptich of the main rotor) or couple it with the throttle
Nick is like the elevator. (tilts the nose up or down)

If you donwload a 2.7 heli into 2.85 version FMS, some models will act strange.
Just replace the Heli model's .par file with another heli .par that dosn't have any problems.
The .par files are in the model's folder in FMS.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but this is my take on heli's after flying them in FMS:

The stick that controls the throttle on a plane controls the pitch of the rotors of a heli. The engine is always running at the same speed. Increase the pitch enough, and the heli will take off. If you take an acrobatic model and invert it, you have to put the 'throttle' to zero to reverse the pitch of the rotors to generate lift.

Apparently, part of learning heli flying is to be able to keep the tail in one spot as you increase the pitch of the main rotor to the point of almost lifting off.

it's an illusion, the throttle for heli in FMS dosen't change, just the pitch of the rotor
Bascailly you're just flying on throttle hold.
The engine sounds goes in a loop and the sound increase and decreases as the model gets larger or smaller.
The rotor's 0 pitch is at the center of the stick...this way when you go inverted it'll generate negative lift

So when you calibrate....move the throttle back to center.


When you first learn how to hover on a real r/c nitro heli, the throttle/engine goes up and down.
The pitch 0 posistion is at the bottom. Pitch movment is mild.
That's how my instructor set my TX for hovering.
I don't belive there's was negative pitch....just less pitch.

This way...if I freak out...and jam the throttle all the way down (have a brain fart just thinking to shut down the engine)[:)],
it won't smash my heli into the earth.
