.28 engine advice? (Full Version)

I have a kyosho mp 7.5 that i use for bashing and im thinking about buyin a new engine. I have a modified Novarossi SBK in it now. Its very similer to a JP modified SBK, i had one of those first and a spair SBK which i copied the mods to and performance is pretty much identical. I sold the JP after. Anyway looking for a little more power. Doesnt have to be smooth or driveable so i can win races, I just want something with a ton of power thats going to be alot of fun for playing around. Is there much to be gained by goin with a .28 or should i just get a high end .21?

So what should I look at? I've been away from the hobby for a few years now. Back in the day the best engines were Novarossi, RB and picco. Are there any others worth looking at now?

Don't forget to take a look at OS also. My oppinion is that you are not going to gain much from going to a .28 i've never had one but on the track the guys that have them are not any faster than I am. I use RB's modified by RB mods. I know that compairing a modified .21 to a stock .28 is not fair but I don't run stock. The other guys that run .21 most of them are stock and the .28 are not any faster than them either. The .28's that I have seen do seem to have a bit more bottom end then a stock .21. I don't know if this helps you or not.

Novarossi rb picco os and ninja are all great .28 engines. If not racing any of them would be great, crazy power.

At my tracks you can't run a .28 in buggy class. My .21's run faster than my .28 anyway.

Ok I did some more reading because I've been out of the racing circuit for a year now and just got back early this year. What I've found out is that a race .21 is pretty much always faster than the .28 counterpart in that companies lineup. Apparently this is almost always true. Now you must understand that this is also other peoples oppinions and not fact to get the facts you would have to put the motors on a dyno and go from there. When I stopped racing the .28's were just starting to really hit the market hard so I never looked at them. If you look around you will see the same stuff I've read and you can make your own decision. Also supertib seems to have had about every type of mill on the market at one point or another and you could ask him what he thinks.

Supertib would be the one to ask. He works with all kinds of engines and can tell you what is good, bad and what to use for most applications. Its pretty much fact that a good .21 will out run most all .28 engines. a .21 will run at a much higher rpm than a 28. If you want a good basher engine with gobbs of power then a Picco P3 is it. The LRp Z28 is also a great mill. I would not spend more cash than you have to on a high end engine just for bashing. The Picco can do both race and bash.

I used to run a .28 in races, but after many arguments I relized a high end .21 is the way to go.

I ran an LRP .28. ya it was fast and had lots of punch, but only ran for 6 mins on a tank and destroyed clutches.
I'm running a sirio .21 it has a little less punch but just as fast if not faster on top end. and it gets 12 mins a tank.
Stick with a .21 if your racing, a quality .21 has more then enough power to throw your truck around.

Seems clear that he was looking for a 28 with lots of punch for playing/bashing, not racing, so go with any of the .28's listed.[:D] I am thinking no one can read in these forums anymore, but I make the same mistake all the time as well. If you are using a strater box I would say os .28 is one crazy powered mill from what I have heard[:D].

Okay I suggest a OS 28 modified

here is my OS 28, detuned even with a 7 mm venturi.....9 mm is insanity !!

You should take a look at the Go Tech motors. Alot of people are very happy with them and the prices are great too. They give you about the same performance as alot of more expensive italian motors. You could try the .21 7-port or the .21 5-port
