Hello,
I am about to order a cc sidewinder / 4600 combo for my e-firestorm. [4600 is considering higher torque for jumps. I may go for a separate 5700 motor for speed runs]
I have a doubt though ..
I have different battery sets .. viz 6C 3600 mAh NiMHs, 7C NiMHs and 2S LiPOs.
Do I have to set LiPO cut off voltage every time I switch from NiMH to LiPO ... or is there a setting which could work for both battery types without interruption i.e. using a laptop to redo the ESC settings.

OR

Can I adjust these settings with my remote control unit and if so, how easy that would be?

I understand that 3S LiPO would definitely require a different setting, which I don't intend to use.

You can manually program the ECU with your transmitter. It's does become a bit of a pain after a while though.

I don't know what your budget is but this is what I would do if I were in your situation:

Buy a couple more lipo packs and have the cc sidewinder use only lipo batteries.

This will be cheaper in the long run if you forget what the settings are and end up getting them wrong - over draining the lipo - which would end up taking out your charger if the bad lipo was not caught before charging it.

What if I set a cut off at 5.8 volts?
It should work for both 6C / 7C NiMH and 2S LiPOs.
Any body done that ?

Depending on who you ask, the cut-off for lipo is either 3.0v per cell or 3.2v per cell. A 7.4v lipo battery has 2 cells (3.7v per cell) so the cut-off shouldn't be lower than 6.0v.

On my Novak Rooster esc the settings are different for non-lipo & lipo batteries (lipo setting has cut-off voltage). If it wasn't a problem to use a cut-off with NiCd/NiMh then I don't think that Novak would have made a separate setting for lipo.

I would just set the cutoff voltage for the li-po battery and run that all the time. I've never reached the cutoff voltage when running NiMH bats. Usually the power is getting limited before the voltage hits the cut-off.

I would not go below 3.2V per cell on a LiPo because as they start to get towards the end of their discharge the cells get further out of balance. 3V per cell is too low IMO. Anyway, you could turn off the LVC and just use a LiPo monitor like the HRPoly-X connected to the balance plug. That's what I'm doing.

on the vxl esc, you can use nimh batteries with the lipo cutoff on, but it will shorten the runtime on the battery. but its worth it, so you dont forget to turn it on when using lipo. i never turn it off on my vxl.
