Hi All,
I have 2 new intellect batteries, (1) 9.6v 1400mAh which charges just fine (using auto settings) and (2) 9.6v 4200mAh which does not charge at all. When I connect the battery to the charger, I get "Err". Any ideas on how to fix this or what might cause it? Thanks.

What's the voltage in these batteries when you first hook them up?

So I called support last week and was told that it was most likely the battery. When I plug in the charger, everything looks fine. Plug in the 9.6v 4200 maH batt and get a reading of 0.0V. Plug in another batter and get a good voltage. Seems that the first battery had drained to the point where it didn't give any voltage(? I'm not too familiar with the terminology). The tech guy told me I could 'jump start' the battery by hooking up a 9v batt to it for a few seconds (pos to pos, neg to neg). And it worked! I plugged the batt back into the charger and got a reading of ~5 v, so i thought great, and started charging. The only thing is, the battery will fast charge and then go through a long trickle charge as expected. however, when i take the batt off the charger and plug back in, i get a reading of ~5 v again. Is there something I'm missing or is the battery totally fried? Thanks.

You may need to cycle to the battery a few times to build the capacity back up again. If you use too high a charge rate, the voltage will jump too quickly and trip off the charger. If the voltage in the battery quickly drops after being charged, then it may an indication that the battery isn't good.

Tim,
Thanks for you comments so far. Can you recommend any particular settings to gently try to bring the battery to life?

I would try charging at .5C or at about 2 amps, but only if the voltage in the pack is up around the 9.6 volts it's rated at. If it's not, then I would use .5 amps until the voltage is up to the 9.6 volts and the voltage holds when the charge is stopped. The charge may shut off well before the battery is fully charged, jsut hit the start button again, and keep doing this until you feel the battery getting warm and the charger stops, then it's done. It should get better the more charges you get into it.
