Gang, Just finished a weekend project I thought you'd enjoy. I took all the leftover parts from the T34 projects on my shelf and cobbled together a burned out T34-85. I have put small battery powered flickering lights inside to act as flames for our night battle. I have plans of rigging a smoker inside for day time events. Total project cost, $10 for the lights from Michaels.

Looks good, but if it's burned, all the suspension should be collapsed. Move all the swing arms up as far as they willl go and make the track as loose as possible and droop them over the road wheels. The fuel drum would be totally gone as the explosion would leave nothing there, except ,maybe a sliver of an end piece on the bracket. If you want to make it really reslistic, take off the rubber tires and dremmel the ridges down..leave the residue on the wheels (glue it secure) to represent burned rubber. Here's the best smoker to use. Batteries at Radio shack are expensive, but the results of that large volume smoker are worth it.

Evey once in a while I will crack open a hL one and try a dfferent mod, it fails back to the drawing board, think of something else,, it fails, back to the drawing board, to do it all over again! I guess that is half the fun of it from me![:D] da Blitz

I tried using the HL smokers but all they did was eat batteries sound too loud and give a mere hint of smoke. [:'(] This is not the big smoker I got....they have a bigger one but I settled for a small-medium size. At any rate, it does pump out the smoke and looks realistic. If I could only get a way to color the smoke black , it would be better. These are available at any hobby shop dealing with RR trains. Not cheap, but as I wrote, worth it for the results obtained. This would be a great deal to set up in a battle system to set off when the final "kill" shot is received. [>:]

A note on this project, it is meant to be left outside and exposed to the elements. If it were a 1/35 scale kit I would have torn up all kinds of things and made it look spot on. This kit was completed in two 1 hour sittings. I have spent more time on my dragons' teeth and pill boxes. The T34 was a gimmick at best and I used all the good details on my two working kits.

Umm, last I checked, the T34-85 was powered by a 500hp V-12 which ran on deisel. I'm not aware it was explosive. I'm guessing realistic damage would depict a ruptured fuel tank (from expanding gasses inside) and then after effects of burned off fuel, which pretty much looks like the model here... For the minimum effort and expense, the tank looks great!

Ever notice that when a thread about destroyed armor comes up, and I admit that I could be wrong here, but from my limited experience, THEY ALWAYS CHOOSE A T-34 TO BLOW UP? Not that I have any aversion to blowing up a Russian tank, mind you. But,,,

ssshhhh not too loud, but I have seen and looked over a number of T-34/85s, mostly from the 3d NKA Inf div that were taken out by F-80 and F-86 using rockets and cal 50 AP rounds. They were all crispy critters...diesel does burn, and hotter than gasoline, just harder to get it going. Fuel drums on those tanks were non existant, they were obviously only half or less full and subsequently burst and spread the fuel over the rest of the tank. A full fuel tank will not burn unless it is punctured. One that is half full will, due to the space inside for fumes and pressure to built up. Still, a nice model edoublease, and it will be nice attraction with a smoker and the lights you have in it. What kind of lights do you use? Wondering if I could wire them into my smoker batteries. It would look great at night. Post some night photos.

Hi Guys, Nice battlefield props... I saw a way to make artificial fire when I was in Dubai Airport, they have this artificical fire lamps. Its uses a pieces of white cloth cut into a fire shapes and the top edge portions was coloured yellow orange. On the lower part there was an air blower the push the cloth upwards. Orange & yellow LEDs below the light up the lower part of the flame. Very good fire illussion from a distance. Now to find a way to put it inside a tank[:D][:D][:D] Don't forget the smoker for add effects. Patrick C.

These ought to go good on the battlefield too, got these at walmart 10 bucks each. not bad for the price.

Got one! I invested in the smoker today too. I will post some pics after it is up and running.
