Just have you mom pay you the difference in trading it in and use that towards gas. Basically you are making your parents may more so you can pay less on gas. Maybe your family can save more by keeping the truck, just a thought.

JB COMP, get a clue I am talking about people who convert their deisel's to bio deisel and use old fast food restaurant cooking oil for fuel (after filtering)

This might be a good thing to pay off yourself if you're sure you can get the money. Get an early start on credit.

Sorry bout the digression folks

Anyway, have you considered selling it privately instead of trading it? My guess is that you would be able to get way better money.

From what I understand (correct me if I am wrong), you will be trading in your current car for a similarly priced more fuel effecient one. Now since dealers hardly pay fair for trade-ins, you will most likely not be able to make an even trade for a similar condition car.

Your parents will then be eating the difference. Let's say there is a 4 thousand dollar difference. Dale's math seems pretty reasonable to me in saying you will be saving about 2k a year on gas. Pretend you have to pay the 4K, would you be willing to pay 4 thousand to drive a more fuel effecient car? If the answer is no, then maybe reconsider having your parents spend money so you can save a couple of extra bucks on fuel...

Also, assuming you have the V8 4X4 Ram, there is a problem if you ar eonly getting 9 mpg. Those cars on average get about 14 mpg, with mixed driving. A tune up seems to be in order, or a possible change in your driving style may save you 800 dollars a year on gas.

Thank's RCken,,

Sheo that is what im thinking.im going to take it to them and see what they will offer and if it's not enough ill sell it privatly.

Auto,I'm paying every bit back that my parent's put into it and i would like not having to go to the pump's every other day for work that's close to my whole check. It cost's me a little over 80$ to fill up my truck then it's gone in about 3 day's(my new job is an average of 15 mile's to work then another 15 back)..I know there isint anything wrong with my truck because my friend who has one just like it also get's an average of 9-13MPG.

No the ram, f-150 and the chevy all suck and might get 14 mpg down hill with the wind at your back. Just joking but my brother only gets about 16 highway and 8 or 10 in the city with his very big f-150. A base ford ranger I'm talking 4cyl 5spd short bed can get 28 or 30. If you need a cheap car you can walk into a KIA dealer and get a car no matter your credit just watch the rate they get a lot of people on that. at my job we have the rio and it's a turd but runs fine and don't see many problems with them. I think they hit 30-33 mpg. The cafe standerd has changed so I don't know the new numbers. They are B.S but give you a base line to start from. I would not trade your truck in it's not worth anything on trade and that's if they take it. trucks and suv's are not what's hot and are sitting on lots all over the USA. I'm so glad I did not get the ford explorer and got the freestar . hold the truck untill winter and snow is coming then people don't care about MPG they just need to get to work at that point .

Have you tried changing your driving style? Stuff like keeping the tires to a psi or two over what's recomended, opening the windows instead of AC, replacing your air filter with something bigger (or at least cleaning it), accelerating slower, keeping the RPM's at a minimum while cruising, using cruise control, shutting the engine down instead of idling for more than a minute, finding a more direct route, and timing top lights? Stuff like that really makes a difference. I used to get 4.5 days out of a tank of gas. I changed my cruising speed from 110 to 85-90 and started accelerating a bit slower and now I get 6 days.
