I'd hate to get rid of a truck too, but yeah 9mpg is bad -especially with the way gas prices and the economy are going.

-EXTRA- -> RE: Might have to get rid of my truck :( (5/9/2008 2:58:01 AM)

Yea it's like i have no choice,it's either keep it and ONLY drive back and forth to work and still be loosing $ or get a fuel ifficient car that get's 30 MPG and drive whenever i want.

JB COMP -> RE: Might have to get rid of my truck :( (5/9/2008 2:58:04 AM)

If you still want a truck then I would suggest looking into the Tacoma 4WD. One guy who was selling one said he got 22MPG - 25MPG with it lifted on 33's

I think the accord gets in the high 20's (I think) so if you want a truck I'd go with the tacoma or if you want something that gets goo mileage go with civic or camery.

I like truck's don't get me wrong but i just don't use them like i thought i would, and the accord get's around 30MPG..im not doubting you but it's hard to believe a truck like that get's 25 MPG..

Do you have a car payment right now? Will you have a car payment with the new car?

If you don't have a car payment and you have a paid of truck, it is going to take a LONG time to make the thousands back from the cost of the new car, payments.

9MPG sounds terrible, and very low (might need a tuneup or lighter foot).

Quick math- Gas price $3.65/gallon

Miles to work, round trip- 30 daily, 150 weekly * 52 = 7,800 miles annually

7,800/9MPG = 867 gallons * $3.65 = $3,164.55

If you get that Accord, it will get 25MPG lets say.

7,800/25 = 312 gallon * $3.65 = $1,138.80

Annual fuel cost difference = $2,025.75

So, you will need a car payment less then the difference to make it worth it. $2,025.75 / 12 = $168.81/mo. or less.

If you can't get a car payment for less then $168.81 monthly (or $168.81 less then your current car payment) then you will just break even. Keep an eye on the big picture. 25 MPG sounds good, but it will take years to make it up.

If it's a $14,000 car, and provides you an annual fuel discount of $2,025.75 then its going to take you basically 7 years to come out ahead (less depending on how much you get for your trade).

Wisconsin Nitro -> RE: Might have to get rid of my truck :( (5/9/2008 3:41:05 AM)

replace the engine with one of those green diesel engines that run off of fryer oil?

RevToTheRedline -> RE: Might have to get rid of my truck :( (5/9/2008 3:41:39 AM)

My mom got 29mpg in her Accord EX V6

Of course gas mileage is a touchy issue for some, it's all in how you drive, my sister manages to top out at about 20mpg in her 05 Focus, and she wonders why, I stopped explaining it to her a long time ago.

lol, some people just dont understand common sense ...lol

I bet having having a big vacuum gauge will help with heavy foot syndrome. It would help me anyway; I have a quiet engine, like to listen to loud music, and don't have a tach.

slurp91193 -> RE: Might have to get rid of my truck :( (5/9/2008 3:57:26 AM)

is it like a cold air intake? cuz that increases ur horsapower. my dad had one on his H2 and it made it run like crap

My bro's B2500 (same as the ford ranger) gets 25MPG (but its 2wd) and my other bro Has a F250 and he get 25MPG and he had a 4Runner with a chevy engine in it and it got 30MPG and it was lifted up pretty high from what he says (he said it was "jacked up" so I'm guessing 6in lift and 38's)

My dad's truck (which is a 86 chevy 4WD) has a 4.3L V6 and he gets 15MPG with 33's and his truck weights 7,000LB and its got stock gears (gear ratio)

You could always buy a HHO booster kit and get 20-30% increase on mileage[:D]

Ok,my truck is paid off,My mom won't let me get it unless it's less then $10k give or take a thousand or 2,if i get the car there won't be any note's it is going to be paid off,My mom bought my truck and im just paying her monthly note's so that's what i will do on this car. Were going to see what they will give us if it's not enough then we will sell it outright.

Dale Gribble -> RE: Might have to get rid of my truck :( (5/9/2008 5:06:11 AM)

your truck isn't paid off if you are making payments on it, FYI. Paid off means paid off and nobody owes anything on it. The same rules apply whether you pay your mom or the bank. Just remember that the Accord isn't an instant payoff. It will take you years to make up for the cost of the car in gas prices alone.

really they are a conversion kit, that uses diesel to get it running and then uses biodiesel to run it after a certain temp, then back to diesel since the fryer oil can gum up the engine

comerford2@msn.com -> RE: Might have to get rid of my truck :( (5/9/2008 3:11:09 PM)

I have a 2006 ford ranger FX4 with 31's and on a good day I can see 17 or 18 on highway 10 to 15 in the city and now it will run me almost $70 a week. So I had a talk with the wife and got a motorcycle to ride on good days. It's a small bike the honda rebel and it is just to go to work, new was $3000 insruance was $360 full covrage for the year and the best part 65 MPG[:D][:D]. I can go a hole week on a tank 2.7 gallons as my truck would burn 17 gallons. I cruse 65mph 18 miles down I-95 to work with no problems top speed with me on it is about 78 MPH I bought a new sprocket for better highway and was reading I could get 80 MPG. The other great thing is I don't get cought in traffic jams[;)]. I could never get rid of my truck and just does so much that no car or suv can do.

Troopermanaic -> RE: Might have to get rid of my truck :( (5/9/2008 9:56:09 PM)

There are cars that you can peddle, sounds exausting but the gearbox is designed so that its verry easy to peddle. Basically like winding up a toy but it last for like an hour or so. I believe that, that should be the future of cars but instead of winding it up physically they use a little electric motor to wind it up. Thats a billion dollar idea so someone jump on that fast.

sheograth -> RE: Might have to get rid of my truck :( (5/9/2008 10:32:41 PM)

Yeah you should be able to get a better deal. Are you planning on buying outright or making payments?

Trading my truck in(if they will give me a good enough trade in) then either my mom paying the difference or just making payment's.

sheograth -> RE: Might have to get rid of my truck :( (5/9/2008 10:42:21 PM)

Ah ok.

Heres a tip. Don't mention that you have a trade in (or even allude to it) until you've settled on a price.
