I would have to say no chance, the chance that either company uses the same radio frequency is highly unlikely. Sorry.

Generally transmitters and recievers are interchangeable, but it's a risk that they may not be. Obviously you'll need matching frequency crystals in both Tx and Rx.
If possible test whether or not it'll work before spending your money.

So long as the band (27Mhz, 75Mhz, etc) and the modulation (AM, FM) is the same, it will work. Any AM 27 Mhz RX will work with any AM 27Mhz TX. But, as an example, an AM 75Mhz RX will not work with FM 75Mhz TX, or an AM 27Mhz TX... Etc.

as long as they are both FM, not synthesized, and running off the same # crystal, youll be good to go.

Almost correct. Futaba and JR equipment are not compatible. One uses positive shift and the other negative shift in the FM signal. That's another thing to check for.

Anyting that's Futaba conmpatible will work together and anything JR compatible will work together.
I think Novak or Hitech makes a receiver where you can select the format of the signal.

Oh i didnt know surface radios had positive and negative shift as well.. I thought it was only air frequencies. In that case, futaba and hitec are negative shift and are interchangeable. And JR and airtronics/sanwa are positive shift and are interchangeable. Most Hitec and airtronics/sanwa TX's and some RX's are also shift selectable, so will work with either type. Most modern aftermarket RX's are either auto shift or shift selectable as well.
