Instead of reinventing the wheel, I need someone to explain to me with picture how to make a mid-wing plane so the wings are removable. I’m building a Daddy-O from FlyRC magazine February 2005. I enlarged the plans 220% giving the plane a 38” wing span. A little to large for a fixed wing plane. I need to make these wings removable. The photos below are not my plane. They are a collection of builds I could find on the internet. I have only just finished cutting the parts so any ideas are still all possible. Thank you all ahead of time.

Typically, a wing tube with sockets in the wing panels is used. Virtually all 2M pattern planes are made this way and most 50cc and up gas models as well.

I would say a 38" span is more than small enough to be a one piece model, I have a 48" span Hots that is fine as a one piece. Most of the 3D profile planes are 44"+ spans and have one piece designs as well. The problem with a 2 piece wing is it adds weight and you can't afford that in a 38" span model.

On a small plane like yours the usual setup is a one-piece wing bolted into the fuselage. The portion of the fuselage that lies above the wing is permanently attached to the wing or is removable to allow access to the attachment bolts. If I can find a plan that shows this I will post it later.

Here is an example from a lovely .25 powered plane, Mary Lou, in the April 2001 issue of Flying Models magazine. The pilot figure hides the attachment bolt.

I believe this wing construction lends it self to a removable center wing. I'll post the plans and as soon as I redraw the center and will post that. If anyone has more experience and is willing to draw me up a solution, I would appreciate it.
