I flew this plane with the recommended throws and COG and the plane flew quite tail heavy. Could this be because in the instructions there are also instructions for using an electric motor and the COG my be slightly different for the electric set up because there is no fuel draw during flight which changes the COG slightly ?

I know the COG can be adjusted to ones style of flying but I almost wrecked the plane because of the tail heaviness while in flight. If some on can please post your COG measurements and the throws you have set on your flyable plane.

When you fly with a glow engine, you usually add more weight to the nose in terms of fuel, so what you are saying makes perfect sense.

It sounds as if you were able to bring it down, though with some difficulty.

That being the case, take the C.G. forward 1.5 to 2" and see how it flies. I'd go with 1.75".

This should make it easier to handle and it will still be in the ballpark for that plane.

You can always adjust it back later if needed.

Yes sir.

Remember the plane will fly with the C.G. set to 25% MAC or LESS... from the sound of it, you may be around 33-35% where it can still be controlled but it may be tail heavy.

You were lucky that it was fully fueled which brought the C.G. forward a bit or else you may have lost it altogether.

So don't be too bashful about bringing it forward.

Hi I know I got real lucky getting it back , when I landed I knocked off the stearable nose gear which is repaired already using nylon instead of hard plastic to hold the gear. As I type I have the plane balance ineverted at the recommended 85mm 3.3 inches from leading edge. What would be consider the top wing center and when you say move the CG forward do you mean move the CG from 85mm to maybe 110 mm ? or 3.3 inches to 4.3 inches ? Thanks a million . I never had this problem with any other plane and I have many.

You want to be effectively adding more weight towards the nose, by shifting things around in the fuse.

When you do this, you are shortening the measured C.G. point relative to the front of the plane.

Usually C.G. is measured at the wing root against the fuselage starting from the front of the wing.

The further forward it is, the more the nose weighs so to speak.

So if the instructions call for 3.3, and you flew it this way, and found it hard to control and land, then move the C.G. FOWARD not back as you are indicating.

e.g. instead of 3.3 inches decrease the measure to 2.5 inches as measured against the wing root from the front of the wing.

To obtain this you will need to move things around, the easiest being to move the battery pack forward until you obtain this new C.G.

Great, I moved it forward about 3/4 of an inch only because I was still able to control under the poor tail heavy condition.
Hopefully I will fly it tommorrow and I will let you know the results.

Fly it with a full tank, if you find that it's not too nose heavy ( though it can be hard to tell when a plane is nose heavy until it is excessively so! ), try just a bit more forward to play it safe.... through allow it to run down to about 1/2 a tank and try to look for any changes in pitch sensitivity.

If it seems to get more sensitive than you would like, with lower fuel, move the c.g. a bit further forward.

If it feels comfortable, leave it as is.
