R/C Lightweight -> M26SS runtime? (5/9/2008 8:41:54 PM)

Just wondering how many minutes of runtime anybody's getting out of the M26SS engine with the stock fuel tank on their Aftershock/Mega Baja/Raminator ? Seems like it should be in the 15 minute range with a 170cc tank, but I'm lucky if I get 10 minutes. It's running at 230 degrees (on 20 percent nitro) and seems to be making good power, but the runtime seems awfully short. Is this engine a gas hog? My brother's Savage X 4.6 engine is .02 bigger and he is consistently getting 5 or more minutes more than I am per tank, both motors being tuned pretty close. What's up? Is this normal for this engine to be so thirsty? It should keep pace with the Savage X on runtime don't you think? (Seems like the M26SS should be slightly more efficient than the HPI .28 due to displacement, and similar fuel tank capacity) What gives?

Mine varies some times 10 or 12 minutes WOT! Dittling around 15 or so!!

Im eventually gonna drop a second tank in it!

230 is on the cooler side. You will get slightly more time if you lean it out and get temps up to 250-260. I have the M26SS in my truggy but with a 7.5 carb instead of the stock 6.5. I get about 12-13min of runtime with it and tamps at 260/265.

If you haven't already got one, get the HT pipe or at least replace the stock pipe with a real one. The stocker is pretty restrictive. I always managed 15 minutes or longer just playing around at racing.

Thanks for the feedback. It sounds like I'm not too far off base, considering the cooler temps/richer settings that I run. I wish these little engines were more efficient and gave a little more time for the $25 / gallon fuel that they drink! Maybe a gasser is in my future. I think the Firehammer MT is down in the $800 range now, and Duratrax claims 1/2 hour runs on a single tank!!! Oh well, that's a whole seperate topic. Thanks again.

Thanks Grits. I put the HT pipe on a couple months ago. What a difference! Definitely a must with this truck. I didn't see much difference in run time, but the low end torque was really boosted substantially.

Buy the high capacity LST2 tank it holds more fuel and you will get longer run times

I'm sure that would be a good option to look into. My main concern was that the engine was a gas hog, as far as other comparable big block sport motors are concerned. I could never figure out why my bro's Savage X outlasted me by 5+ minutes per tank, when the HPI has the bigger engine. An extra 4 or 5 minutes per tank adds up fast when you can burn through an entire gallon of fuel in an afternoon's worth of bashing!

I have an axial 32 and it likes to suck up the fuel. I haven't timed it to close but but it all depends on how hard you drive the truck and how you have the truck tuned. If you like running full throttle you will use up the fuel. My son put a axial 32 in his aftershock with the high capacity tank and he gets a good run time.

Im adding a tank to mine!

mmbc -> RE: M26SS runtime? (5/10/2008 5:33:10 PM)

i get like 15 minutes of run time mostly every run. and i would say the engine is no where near a gas hog. and i keep my truck running around temp's of 250-290 degrese.

I agree with you,,, now mach 15 RE in my old xxxnt ? That was a gas hog!
