I am getting into touring and i have found a local track and i was wondering what the best starter car(RTR) is, but i dont want it to be a little "dinky" car. I want t obe able to upgrade it and eventually go brushless. my max is 300$ so i want the best for my money. Any suggestions???

TC3 or TC4, I prefer the shaft driven to belt driven (just because belts are a pain to swap out, and if you blow a belt mid race, have fun)

I was big into on-road nitro but recently moved to where the only LHS racing is 1/10 sedan electric on-road, so to see if I had the interest I picked up a cheap E-10 HPI drifter, just to see if it would give me the same thrill as racing nitro - needless to say, I am now getting heavy into electric and trading off my nitro stuff. I have already picked up a Tamiya TT-01 and just about every alloy and carbon fiber or graphite hop-up and a TC3 roller to rebuild.

I would say go with the TC3, as you are probably going to have to start out at Novice Class at your LHS (my lhs Novice = 27T) $150 or so should get you a decent roller with some hop ups and allow you to spend some money on other hop-ups, parts, bodies, TX, etc.

First thing you should do before buying anything is goto the track (if you haven't already) and see what classes they're running. It doesn't make sense to buy something they don't have a class for.

If it absolutely has to be RTR then the TC4 is probably the way to go. Otherwise if you don't mind piecing it together yourself and building the kit then the TA05 is a great car. Of course it all really depends on what your track stocks parts for.

Yeah lol about having fun switching belts mine is getting pretty worn out but I'm using that thing till its ripped!

cyclone s is my vote. highly upgradeable. very smooth for racing

I just finished building, and setting up my TA05, and I was seriously impressed with it. I finally got to run it today, vs. my buddy with a Losi XXX-S, with same turn motors, and batts, and I smoked him big time.
A TA05 kit, plus radio gear, and an ESC will run about $300.
In my opinions this is race ready out of the box.
Also keep in mind you will need to get a battery and a charger.

I think a kit would be the way to go personally, if this is your first RC car, you need to know how everything goes together, and have the confidence in your ability to take it all apart to fix it, upgrade it, etc.

I just bought a fantastic used TC3 off of eBay for $165 which included everything except a servo and ESC. You can find some good deals out there. Either get Associated (TC3, TC4) or maybe Losi XXX-S for a good starter car. I think the TC3 is probably best due to the setup potential and aftermarket parts.

I suggest popping down to your local track and watching a few races, see what other racers are racing and then go from there...

Thanks for all the suggestions, i will definately go down to the track and check things out, and in the mean time i will check out the tc3/4, the cyclon-s, and the ta-05[:D]

Oh and how are the TB-02s, are they any good or is the TA-05 much better
