Gearing and excessive run times...

Sounds like the Motor is drawing current a little too much and heating up the wire...

First off what connector are you using? It's common for high powered motors to draw enough amperage to melt those junk Tamiya connectors. I'd definitely suggest going with Deans connectors.

As for the overheating problem, you'll really need to give more information about your setup. What batteries, motor, speedo, and gearing are you running? It sounds like you may need to gear down a little (smaller pinion gear).

Gearing and excessive run times...

as magnat alluded, gear the car down (smaller pinion and/or larger spur gear) and/or limiting your runtimes (don't run the car for exteneded periods of time, limit it to 10-15 minutes)

Well I had a problem similar to that last year and it turned out that the motor was drawing to much power because I was not aware that I had to solder the copaciters on my self. I thought it came all ready to run but I guess not. I went thru 2 sets of wires before I figured that out. So you might want to take a gander at ur motor and make sure. Incase u dont know the copacitors are little orange things with wires soldered to the motor oposite side of where the leads hook up. I could be completely wrong about that but ya never know. Like I said just have a gander just so u can atleast say you made sure. Well I hope I helpped and if I didnt I tried. Latta bro.

Thanks everyone for the replies, i need to check if the resistor is there, i went out and bought a speed controller at a hobby shop that is rated to 15t, compared to the stock 23t rating, still using the stock motor. Hope the speed controller works.

Also, you could have binding in the pinion/spur gear location. Make sure the pinion and spur are not "tight" together but have a little play in them between the gears. A tight spur/pinion binding can lead to nasty overheating and poor performance too. If just a bit tight, it can be overheating without really noticing a drop in performance much.

Hi,

If it is only the positive wire then it is possibly a fault with the wire, maybe broken strands, or a faulty connector. Has the wire been bent really tight, twisted or trapped? Changing the wire out could be a quick cheap fix.

which motor are u running on that 15t esc m8? also are you using deans connectors cos the tamiya bullets ones wont last long on a good 15t motor as they melt together also post up your gearing so we can see if its overgeared which will cause alot of heat too

I am using a 15t esc, with a 19t motor. I am using the stock connectors, tamiya, gearing is stock spec of a lighting EPX made by redcat racing.

Thanks
