slrsmokey -> Losi XXX-S throttle delay (5/10/2008 4:51:08 AM)

I have a Losi XXX-S and I have a 15 turn Venom motor with a Duratrax Intellispeed 8T ESC. I just got it all back together and ran it for the first time in like a year and I forgot that I had been having a delay in the throttle. If I pull the trigger to go theres like a second delay in the throttle and it doesnt just get up and go. It starts out slow but then it gets up and goes. I didnt have that problem when I first got the car. Im thinking its either the ESC is going bad, the motor is going bad or it has something to do with my drivetrain somewhere. Im not sure. I know before I tore it apart last year my tensioner wouldnt keep tension on the belt but I fixed that problem and its still got a delay. So I dont know what the problem is. Any help would be much appreciated. And by the way before anyone says anything I know the Venom motors arent the greatest. I just dont have the money yet to get the Trinity Cobalt 2 9T Double that im gonna get when I do get the money. Just thought Id save yall the time of typing that. I dont know how many times Ive been told its a crappy motor. Anyways thanks in advance.

mokey, the Venom motors may not be the greatest, but the work, and do the job. I have a 19T in my TA05, and it is plenty fun.
As for your problem try reprogramming the ESC.

yea sounds like a ESC problem to me also, i just put a xcelorin 7500 with a 11.1v lipo in today and im not encountering any issues like that, but sometimes i notice clogging with the brushless system, i think next time i get a motor im getting a sensored one

ok rocketrobinnm what do u mean by that?

rschuur -> RE: Losi XXX-S throttle delay (5/11/2008 9:07:35 PM)

sensorless motors if over geared will cog during low speed starts or dead stop starts. sensored will not cogged but if over geared will generate heat quickly similar to the sensorless

slrsmokey -> RE: Losi XXX-S throttle delay (5/12/2008 8:17:11 PM)

ok but what do u mean by sensored and sensorless. Do u mean brushed and brushless. Thats what Im getting out of that. And if so then Im running a brushed motor. A Venom Fireball 15T D with a Duratrax Intelispeed 8T ESC. From what Ive heard its a good ESC and the motor I thought was a good motor but ever since I got it everyone made fun of me for having it. Im sorry Im too poor right now to afford a good motor. Anyways.

eckosof -> RE: Losi XXX-S throttle delay (5/13/2008 6:57:31 PM)

dosent sound like a motor problem, Sensored and sensorless only pretain to brushless motors i believe, sensored mean there is something inside the motor that detects where something is inside, sorry i dont know correct terms but i do know that it if you have a sensored motor its less likely to cause clogging, which is like the motor skipping at low speeds, your situation does sound like a feature called throttle delay, i have a xcelron esc and its programmable, i know throttle delay and brake delay are options for programming, have messed with it yet but you should find out if your esc is programmable. here is a pic of what my programming card looks like that i hook up to the ESC. http://www.horizonhobby.com/Products/Default.aspx?ProdID=LOSB9377

slrsmokey -> RE: Losi XXX-S throttle delay (5/14/2008 3:38:49 PM)

ok my ESC didnt have anything like that. I know I can hold a button and pull the trigger on my remote to program it that way but I dont think its that advanced tho. Im still a bit of a novice so I think an ESC like that is a bit much for me. Thanks tho.

eckosof -> RE: Losi XXX-S throttle delay (5/14/2008 6:22:38 PM)

Just pulled this from manual of your ESC. Let me know if it helps

SPEED CONTROL WORKS BUT OTHER PROBLEMS EXIST
Problem: Receiver glitches or stutters during acceleration.
1) The three required motor capacitors are not installed or have broken. Re-check all
capacitors.
2) The Rx signal is intermittent due to a large voltage drop during acceleration. Use an
external battery and a non-BEC Rx designed to be used with ESCs. Pay special attention
to remove the red lead from the Rx to ESC harness prior to powering up the ESC or Rx.
3) Rx mounted too close to ESC causing interference. Relocate Rx away from ESC.
4) Check for faulty power connections.
5) Use of an AM radio system might be resulting in erratic signals. Use of an FM radio system
might be necessary.

slrsmokey -> RE: Losi XXX-S throttle delay (5/15/2008 1:43:18 AM)

I gotta wait til I get the other crystal I need before I can do anything. Thanks tho. I think the ESC just might be getting burned out. People say its a good ESC but I dont think it has a good life. Im gonna try holding the button on my ESC and program it like it says in the instructions because I didnt do that this time around. And it says to do that every time you hook a new motor up or something so Im gonna try that and see if that works. Eventually Im just gonna get a new ESC anyway. Im gonna shop around and find one thats not to complex but not to cheap. I want one thats fairly simple to program and use but will last a while even after being ran hard because I like to top out my Losi alot. And I want to start drifting it too. Any advice on setup or parts that would help me with drifting. I dont have a brake I have reverse so in order for me to kick the rear end out to start a drift I have to throw it in reverse then gun it again. Any suggestions on a better way to do that. Do they make ESC's that dont have reverse and just stop the motor when u push the trigger foward. I think that would help. Thanks again. Latta.

eckosof -> RE: Losi XXX-S throttle delay (5/15/2008 1:54:03 AM)

well i turned my XXX-S into a drifter just buy throwing an insane about of power at it, This is my first electric so i dont know as much as the other guys but i hear lockin the diff's, proper tires and practice is the way to go, but i might be wrong, check the drift board.

slrsmokey -> RE: Losi XXX-S throttle delay (5/15/2008 2:46:45 AM)

well i looked at one of the drift boards and it was some kids arguing about whos car was faster. When u say locking the diffs do u mean like making them pretty much a solid axel. I would still have reverse tho wouldnt i? And how do I go about doing that. Ive seen on a site i shop at for my losi One Way Differentials. Is that what I have that was stock or does that act like a solid rear end. Differentials make the car work like posi trac right. The wheel woth the less weight on it spins faster? And I was also wondering, If anyone could help me on this, how the longer drive belt for the losi helps. Does it make it faster or what?
