This is a perfect oportunity to tell everyone to wear their seat belts and helmets, lol. I'm not afraid to die, but I do want to live as long as possible.

God Forbid, but if I were to know an approximation of when it'd be time for me to go, I wouldnt start a family, id pretty much distance myself from the rest of the people I know.

Again, its not that im scared, not one bit.

But what terrifies me is what'd happen to the people I leave behind, my parents, brother, sister, people I knew and cared about...

A good friend of mine passed away a year ago, and after seeing what his parents went through, it hit me.

" In the end, its not how you lead your life, its what you accomplished in which people will remember you by, weather you were un-married, didnt have kids, fat, thin, anything. All that will be forgotten once your gone. Its what you accomplised in whatever time you had that will matter. "

Quote from my dad.

I think the day he told me that, it was the day I grew up.

But yeah, its a pretty touchy subject. Im probably gonna get a lotta disagreement. But I know I made sence.

I was reading about a Marine that dove onto a grande to save all his fellow marines and that is some stuff. the life of one to save the many. I give the military a lot of respect because they know they could die but still perform the job and do it well. I would give my life for my kids and wife without thought but a stranger? I guess it would just be a action and not a thought, I hope I never find out. We just lost a cop in Philadelphia only a mile from my house he gave his life to protect the people, it was hard on the community and it's so sad that this stuff happens and does not have too. The cop had a wife and two kids.

after watching a show about people who died and got brought back to life, i was just currious

You ought to BE there when it happens; really makes you appreciate life.

I've been a registered nurse for 25 years, worked emergency room, USAF medevac, operating room, including open heart. Seen a lot come in almost dead and leave in much better shape, seen some come in breathing and leave on a slab. In open heart surgery, at least when I was doing it 20 years ago, you intentionally stop the heart, so you have effectively "killed" the pt without the support you're giving them.

I'm getting to the age where I think about my mortality a lot more, wondering how much longer I get to spend on this "mortal coil". I don't dwell on it, but consider the things I would like to do, and more importantly, the things I OUGHT to do, before I sign off.

You young guys, rather than worrying about dying, should just consider and appreciate the living that occurs first, and make the most of it, and do it in a way that will extend it.

I'm not afraid to die, but I'm not necessarily looking forward to it either. Still lots of things to do first. Heck, I have enough airplane kits to last 20 or 30 more years yet, and I want to build them all.

That's different from when I say I am not afraid to die. I don't want to die, but I know what will happen to me after I do. I would do everything I could to prevent myself from being shot in the head, that's basic survival instinct. I have a family that I don't want to leave, a son I want to raise. You say that, prolly because your completely scared of what would happen to you if you did. That's ok, if you really wanted help with that issue, I could help you.

i don't get why people put their life "timeline" in their own hands by killing them self, if it is an accident that is one thing, but suicide i don't get it, amazing what can happen to people on drugs..... sad stuff

I don't think I am scared, but I really don't know, since I have never stared death in the face, and I hope I never have to. But as some one said (I can't remember who), "It is not dying that most people are scared of, it's how they die, like most people would rather be shot in the head, the burned alive with a flame-thrower."

Gah, I hate comin' across things that bring up "death"... It all comes to us, and I hate the feeling it gives me when I think about it..
I'm not scared to die, but I mean.. I just really hate to know what comes after life, and how it all works out.. everything you leave behind.. how you just stop functioning as a human, and how you just cease to exist.

I've been close a few times myself, mostly ticker trouble. I had my first heart attack at 46 and a quad bypass 2 years ago at 53. I have no choice as to when I'm going so I'm trying to enjoy life as much as I can.
Who knows for sure when we're going to buy the farm. You might not have 50-50 years to go, you might not make it through the night.
We lost a member this past week at 31 from drowning while trying to retrieve his stalled R/C boat.
All you can do is to try to lower your odds of going before your time. Keep yourself healthy, wear your seatbelt and listen to your inner voice and not do anything stupid when you know that you shouldn't.
While you're here, LIVE, don't just exist.

wow, thats prety sad that a member died trying to get his boat , my heart goes out to his family at this time, its amazing, shortly after this thread "died" in a sense, a family member (uncle, moms side) passed away from old age, which brought home how fast life can end, wether it be from drowning or old age or what not, ya, this is a great time to remember SAFETY FIRST, if in doubt, dont do it

You've heard many times how short life is and yes, it is.
When I was in school I thought of how slow the weeks went by, as I couldn't wait for Friday to come and it was like it was an eternity for it to get here.
Time seems to speed up the older that you get. Once you're out in the working world, time seems to fly by. You get to the point where it seems like you just paid that bill but it's due again already? I'm having trouble realizing that I hit the double-nickel last year as I shouldn't be this old already. It starts to sink in when we get that dreaded letter from the AARP just before hitting the big 5-
