yellodog -> power hd servos (5/10/2008 12:46:13 PM)

Does anyone know anything about those power hd servos that troy built models are selling?anyone tried them or know someone who has? Was wondering if they were worth trying

vegasjbug -> RE: power hd servos (5/12/2008 5:02:01 PM)

I picked up five of them from TBM last week to put into a 85" Yak. I will let you know.

I have one of the power HD 2550A from TBM (12kg, 165oz) on my 50cc edge on the rudder and it works great I've only got about 3 or 4 flights with it but its holding up fine I'll keep ya up to date... it has good speed and is very accurate.

cagmo -> RE: power hd servos (5/21/2008 3:39:07 AM)

I agree with one exception. I have them in a new Magichand Sukoi from TBM. They seem to center well and are strong. I have about 15 flights on them and had no issues until the last flight. I am still investigating. One aileron servo locked and I had to force land the plane holding full opposite aileron just to stay level. saved the plane but smashed the gear. On the ground the servo was jumping around. Turned off system and on again. this time the servo went full lock again. All other channels were fine and the radio/recvr is fine (tried in otherplane). Very concerned. TBM is sending a replacement. I will install new servo and reeval over mem day w/e.

well, if its the servo there's alwayz a couple bad eggs in the batch and I think you may have got one... lets just hope this doesn't happen alot with these the price is right and with the good specs we don't want these to have the reputation like the Tower Pro 995's....

cagmo -> RE: power hd servos (5/22/2008 3:08:08 AM)

I hope these prove to be great. I am impressed, save for the issue I am investigating. Will keep everyone posted.....

Dude...small world! I saw you fly the other night. I live in CO but stopped by your field to watch while I was on a business trip (the night you almost took your leg off :-P)....weird...

T3beatz -> RE: power hd servos (5/23/2008 7:01:42 AM)

Ha,ha! that was yesterday or Wednesday... yeah that was bad!!! whats your name, did we speak?

T3beatz -> RE: power hd servos (5/23/2008 7:26:50 AM)

Was that you with the shades on and the maroon car?

cagmo -> RE: power hd servos (5/23/2008 2:38:58 PM)

Yup that was me. Didn't get a chance to talk to you ...you were too busy keeping that thing in the air. Small world huh? Anyway...I plan on replacing my servo and flying this w/e on my Yak. I have all HD power servo. Still holding out hope!

shogunmst -> RE: power hd servos (5/24/2008 9:57:53 AM)

Think these are good enough for a 40%er....???

T3beatz -> RE: power hd servos (5/24/2008 4:26:53 PM)

I'd back em... the thing about most 40% planes is there are multiple servos per control surface, meaning more redundancy on that surface... I would get the digital 220oz for a 40%er I think there the 9150's...

Whistling Death -> RE: power hd servos (6/28/2008 3:16:07 AM)

Guys please keep this thread alive. I am very interested in these servos. There is a lot of bang for the buck!

T3beatz -> RE: power hd servos (6/28/2008 5:31:03 AM)

Yeah, I know.... My 2550a servo stopped working on me one day, I opened it up and found that one of the leads from the motor to the board had vibrated loose, a little solder and its back working again... If you look at the TBM video of the Magic hand yak-54 they have these installed on there plane... I only have that one on my 30% yaks rudder, I'm gonna get more so I can put them all around, they have good speed and if they can power my rudder around the rest of my surfaces should be easy...

cagmo -> RE: power hd servos (6/28/2008 6:36:47 AM)

I've gone back to Hitec. I've had two go bad and the last one cost me my plane. The rudder locked to the end point (yes it was set up correctly) after a manuever...that is it never returned to neutral. They are a good price...but as in most things you get what you paid for. I'm done with them. I need to have full confidence in my servos...two bad on same plane has made the risk not worth it to me. Maybe you'll be fine...as for me no more of these. Hitecs have worked well for me for years...so much for trying something new.

Speaking of something new...Now ask about my JR 12x. Not that is awesome!!!

T3beatz -> RE: power hd servos (6/28/2008 6:52:03 AM)

I've only been flying for about 8 months now and I've had every type of servo go bad on me, Futaba, Hitec, etc... I guess its what you make of it... when mines quit on me it just went dead and the rudder didn't lock up on me, thank god. well, I'll keep you guys informed on them and let ya know if any more bad events should arise...

T.J.

Oh, yeah cagmo which servos where you using the digital ones? or the analog?
