nubzorz -> Need some major help with my lighting HELP!! (5/10/2008 5:50:23 PM)

i pretty much just got this lightning im not new to nitro so i usually dont have any problems but this thing is giving me all kinds of problems. i broke the car in everything was good while breaking it in so the next day im driving it and it acts like its about to stall when it hits hi speeds so i figured its to lean but i didnt richen it out i just shut it off and figured id do it the next day i run it so i go out the next day and the engine soounds ok when i start it then like 10 secs later it acts like it wants to stall so i give it some gas and it doesnt stall but it sounds terrible its just running so bad the settings are all back to factory except the idol screw but there is a 1mm opening in the carb like it should be. i tried to drive it on the road when it was running ****ty and it had no power at all top speed was like 5 mph so i shut it off fearing somthing would mess up in the motor. also most of the time when i take the glow ignighter out it stalls but i dont think the plug is bad ive checked it and it seems to work fine. i really dont understand what happened cause from what i can see all the settings are correct it will start up fine evey time but it just idols crappy and will hardly stay running and this is the most important part i think when i hit the gas a little bit the engine revs high for like a few seconds ive never heard that with my other cars maybe i just got lucky but idk it just revs high like i floored it for a second but i only hit the gas the tinyest little bit... can anyone help. i might have to make a video to better show you guys whats happening

If you can make a video that would be great. YOu might have a bad one way bearing in the trans.

Hmm sounds to me like you have an air leak some where on the engine. I would check the carburator neck and the o-rings on it and, make sure the head is properly seated and check the o-ring on the backplate. Also pull out the HSN and LSN and check their respective o-rings.

an easy way to check that is to get some nitro fuel or WD-40 and squirt or spray them around those areas while the engine is running, if your using Nitro fuel the engine should rev up alittle if your using WD-40 it will bog alittle.

so weird it was running fine when i was breaking it in but yea it sounds like it could be a air leak but i checked the hsn and lsn and the o-rings look fine im gonna make a video to show you guys whats going on probly tomorrow or today if it stops raining

if you notice your performance suddenly gets retarded, the first thing you should do is check to make sure all the engine parts are tight so you dont lose compression. something similar happened to be as i was breaking in my car and i found out later that my exhaust got loose. check the engine parts before you mess around with the needles if you had already tuned the engine.

On a somewhat similar note, the HSN fell out of the carburator on my nitro Lighting today. I had been driving my Lighting for about 3 minutes and I was thinking to myself, boy is it running really crappy. Well as I brought it back in to see what as going on, it died as soon as I set the throttle to neutral. I picked it up and noticed it was COVERED in nitro and I was thinking to myself....WHAT THE HELL!??!?!?!? How long had it been running, without the HSN in, I don't know. How it worked itself out I don't know. Just to note, the needle was set 3 turns out from bottom, but I did notice the o-ring must be worn out as the needle is really loose regardless of how high or low it is set. So just so you know nubzorz, anything can happen/go wrong[:)][:)][:)].

so what are u saying megabash thats not helping me at all.. the hsn is in and its fine all the settings are correct i have 3 nitro rc's and have never had this problem. the thing i noticed was the hsn o-ring looks like it could be a little bigger looks kinda wimpy but hey i had a video of what the cars doing the thing that gets me is why the motor revs up to medium rpm after im done hitting the gas and then the rpm's slowly go back down to normal here is the link to the video im not sure if its watchable yet cause i just uploaded it

first change your glow plug, then see how it runs. sounds a little lean on the low end
