im tired of the sloppy gears in the esky servos. Im ready for new ones. I changed my tail servo to a 65hb and i planned on getting matching servos for the cyclic but id obviously have to have a programmable radio to use them(coming soon but not quite yet). Am i really going to need that extra strong karbonite gear on my cyclic's?

Are the hitecs worth the extra 7 bucks and having to wait for a dx6i?

I am running a dx6i radio, and when I decide to update my cyclic servos I will probably modify my king servo mounts and the servos so the hs65 fits. Actually I would think the 3114 is better for the rudder, it's much faster then the HS65 however it does not have hard gears or Ball bearings. For right now I run the 3114 (15$) on my rudder as its much faster then the Esky (11$) and smoother when the gyro is in HH. Also use stock Esky on my cyclic right now as they are cheap and I still lose battles with the wifes lawn furniture and planters, distroy cyclic servos (gears) on a regular basis. Also you need to look at the mount for the servos as some servos fit that funny Esky frame mount better then others. HItec needs modified to fit it as it has a totally diff mount, even with the keyway cut off the Esky it has to have a new hole or slot cut on the flange. BTW if you decide to go digital on the tail keep in mind you will need a digital gyro, that rules out most of the low end gyros.

i figured i would use just a good analog gyro. I already have the 65 on the tail. And I dont really want to spend alot of money on a gyro. The most expense i want to have is a dx6i. Can you suggest a good gyro?

It sounds like the hitecs take a tad bit more modification than the futabas do.

But!... i read somewhere that the futabas horns dont line up right and there are some linkage issues that have to be setup funny so they dont bind.

I ordered (3) digital MG servos and (1) digital HB servo from Hobby City. They are doing very well. They cost $15.00 and $19.00. I ordered them when I ordered some 2200 mah lipos. They do take a few mods to fit the HBK2, but they are so much better then 55's. They are the same size as the 65 though so they are taller then the stock ones or the 55's.

Yes the 55 is very slow not even as strong as the stock esky, not even a consideration for upgrading to. The 3114 is nearly 2 times as fast and about 30% more powerful but is a little difficult to set up for the cyclic as it s much smaller in physical size then the esky and has to have a mount fabricated, no problem with the servo arms though, however....they ARE very very narrow so when you open up the holes for the linkage make sure it is centered or you will tear the arms. Neither Futaba or anyone else makes a heavier arm for them. Best place for the 3114 is on the rudder as its VERY fast for a analog servo and beats most others out as far as torque is concerned. When you compare servos for cyclic $ for $ the hitec 65hb is by far the best bet, hard gears, lots of torque moderatly fast and ball bearings for strength (ball bearings work better for supporting the gear shafts then plastic extrusions in the case) only need the minor alteration (cut 2 slots in the tabs) to make it fit. When I decide to upgrade I will pop the $75 or so for the 65hb
